The Lenten Season (February 22 to April 7) is a time of repentance, self-examination, fasting and prayer in preparation for Resurrection Sunday (Easter). “Renewing our sense of who we really are before God is the core of the Lenten experience”. (Pastor Orville K.Littlejohn, my Pastor, “Our Focus for Ash Wednesday”). So today seek God with a repentant heart (See Joel 2: 12-24) and let us honestly search our hearts (Psalm 139:23-24). Here is an example of a prayer of repentance to help you get started in initating self-examination , prayer and a spirit of repentance. Then we will examine what is repentance and why it is important to our prayer lives and our relationship with God.

A Prayer of Repentance
Lord, I come humbly before You and ask you to cleanse my heart of my every sin. “Have mercy on me O, Lord according to your loving kindness and blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly of my iniquity and cleanse me of all of my sin. (Psalm 51:1-2) Lord create in me a clean heart. Please Lord renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10-11). Forgive me for thoughts I have had, words I have spoken and things that I have done that are not pleasing in your sight and do not glorify you. Father, forgive me I pray for my sins of_______(state them)________________________. I confess it is a sin and truly repent of these acts, words and thoughts. ( 1 John 1:9; Psalm 32:5 Proverbs 28:13, Psalm 51:6, 10). Lord search the inwards hidden places of my heart and reveal my sin to me that I may not see. (Psalm 139: 23-24). I seek to repent of everything that You show me Lord. I confess my sins to you in the full realization that you are faithful and just to forgive me of all my sins and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness.( 1John 1:9) I know that my sins are against You and You only. Grant me a broken, willing spirit and a contrite heart so I can offer it to You (Psalm 51:1-4, Psalm. 51:12, Psalm 51:17).

Thank you Father. I desire to obey your commandments and statutes. I choose to stop my sinful ways and to turn to walk upright. Help me, Lord God to bring forth fruits that are worthy of repentance (Luke 3:8). Lord I want to live a righteous, pure and holy life through your power (Colossians 1:11). I am determined to walk in the Spirit and in your ways and walk away from my sins by the power of the Holy Ghost. Grant me a godly sorrow that is not just full of regret because of the consequences of sin but sorrow that leads to true repentance (2 Corinthians 7:9-10). Lord give me a tender heart that is sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and the conviction of sin. Holy Spirit, thank You for convicting me of my sin. Forgive me for the ways I’ve ignored Your voice and quenched and grieved You. (John 16:8; Ephesians. 4:30; 1 Thessalonians 5:19; Romans. 8:1-2). Lord I praise you, Father, for your goodness that leads to repentance (Romans 2:4). Lord thank you for restoring my soul so that the times of refreshing my come (Acts 3:19). Amen.

It is important to note that a repentant heart is not limited to a special season or time of the year. If we want to have effective prayer lives which bring forth life transformation and healing of the land, repentance must become a part of our lifestyle. Despite the benefits of repentance, we are resistant to the thought of repentance. Repentance isn’t a popular word. Our culture encourages us to do whatever we want when we want. TV, music videos and movies very rarely show the consequences of our sins.

It is one thing to know that you have done something that is wrong . But it is another to be saddened and sorrowful about your actions and determine that you will turn away from that sin and never do the act again. To repent “I” or “we” must come to terms with and acknowledge that we have sinned and then turn away from such sinful behavior and be reconciled back to our loving Lord. Therefore, repentance is a change of mind that involves both a turning from sin and turning to God. Christ began his ministry with a call to repentance. (Mathew. 4:17). We must examine every attitude, every motive, every action and ever word of evil. Repentance means that you are deeply godly sorrowful and hurt about what you have done unto the Lord and that you are determined to do all that you can not to commit that sin again. “Repentance means we are sorry about our sin to the point of grief, and we have turned and walked away from it”. Stormie Omartian, “The Power of a Praying Woman” p. 40, Harvest House Publishers,(2002).

Charles Spurgeon writes:
Repentance is a discovery of the evil of sin, a mourning that we have committed it, a resolution to forsake it. It is, in fact, a change of mind of a very deep and practical character, which makes the man love what once he hated, and hate what once he loved.
J. I. Packer writes:
Repentance means turning from as much as you know of your sin to give as much as you know of yourself to as much as you know of your God, and as our knowledge grows at these three points so our practice of repentance has to be enlarged.

Before we can truly repent we must admit our sins and tell them to God. Confession means we recognize we have done wrong and admit it. We cannot hide from God no matter how we try. God knows what “I” have done and wants “me and you” to know and admit in detail what “I” have done. Dick Eastman, in “The Hour That Changes the World”, says, “Confession is a heartfelt recognition of what we are. It is important to God because it indicates that we take seriously our mistakes and failures. Of course, God does not ask us to confess our sins because He needs to know we have sinned, but because He knows that we need to know we have sinned”. Dick Eastman, “The Hour That Changes the World”,p.42 , Baker Book House, (1999). If we do not confess our sins one consequence is that our prayer life will suffer as God will not hear our prayers if we have iniquity in our hearts (Psalm 66:18).

God offers many wonderful results of repentance, including healing, restoring, freedom, joy and reconciliation. In Acts 3:19 the call to repentance invites you to “repent, then turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord”.

Action Steps:
1. During the Lenten season I want to encourage you to join this or a 40 day Prayer Journey even if you are beginning at day 7 or whatever day. Just begin where you are. Determine to spend quality time with the Lover(God) of your soul every day. Decide to start out with half an hour and increase it slowly. Be diligent and be faithful. We can never grow or develop an intimate relationship with God unless we spend quality time with Him.
2. Confess any sin you may be guilty of against man and God. Ask God to search you and reveal any unconfessed sin.
3. Say or write a prayer of repentance out of your heart. Above is an example of a prayer of repentance. Your prayer need not be perfect, but sincere, sorrowful and heartfelt.
4. Have a journal. God has so much to speak into your life. It may not happen overnight if you haven’t been praying on a consistent basis. But remember He is right there. Don’t give up.
5. Leave a prayer request.

Tebowing -Unashamedly by Delisha Easley

As we are all still making sure to stay in line with our goals let’s make sure we are achieving the correct goals. The worst thing is to pursue something only to find out it’s not for you. For example, when we major in Business Administration for three years only to find out our real passion is Education. We feel like we have wasted our time. The same is true when pursuing any goal financially, spiritually, or physically. I have found we often don’t pursue our true passions or goals because we are ashamed of them.
Tim Tebow is currently a great example of a young famous athlete that makes it quite clear what he has a passion for sharing his faith and football. However, he makes it clear that he wouldn’t be as highly favored in football if it wasn’t for his faith in Jesus Christ.

I can only imagine that when Tebow first begin praying on the field back in high school he was probably a little nervous about what others may think or say. He like many of us have decided NOT to be ASHAMED! Three questions to answer in order to live the UNASHAMED LIFE:
1. Does anyone know your true passion?
2. What do you want to be remembered by?
3. Are you making an impact?

I’m not sure what you are unashamed of so I’ll share what I used to be ashamed of:
1. Wanting to remain a virgin until marriage
2. Sharing my faith in Christ Jesus
Surprising I know!:) However, I believe often the things we are ashamed of is really the fear of what would happen if we really embraced our passions! Since overcoming these fears I’ve travelled the world sharing the love of Jesus Christ with thousands and have written a book Not Everyone is Having Sex

Scripture: “If anyone is ashamed of me and my message in these adulterous and sinful days, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” (Mark 8:38, NLT)

Call to Action: Today do something you’re usually ashamed of. Make your mark!

Delisha Easley had the desire to serve and encourage others at the tender age of 12, when she began traveling on mission trips to places, such as Mexico, Guatemala, France, and England. Easley went on to receive her Bachelors of Science degree in Special Education from Oral Roberts University and Masters of Science in Psychology from University of Phoenix. Easley has recently become a certified life coach. She has been featured in the #1 Urban Christian lifestyle magazine, Gospel Today, as a topic of interest. Praying Through a Financial Challenge by Samirian Hill

Save Now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord I beseech thee, send now prosperity.” Psalms 118:25 KJV

You probably can relate to this cry for help, especially over the last few years. If you believe God is your source, the Great Recession, as it is called, should not frighten you. A phrase you may have heard often is, “I am not participating in this recession.” While that is the proper attitude to assume for believers, unfortunately, many household budgets, whether directly or indirectly, have been impacted by the economic downturn. Bankruptcies and foreclosures are at all time highs, while property values declined. Interest rates on credit cards skyrocketed, while available balances and limits were slashed and interest rates on fixed investments are at an all time low. Furthermore, groceries and gasoline prices increased, while paychecks, bonuses, and raises declined, if not eliminated. Not many people escaped the wrath of this economic tsunami!

If your finances have not been affected, then Praise the Lord! You truly have not participated in the “recession”. If your finances were adversely affected, you still do not have to allow external circumstances to move you to fear. Regardless of what APPEARS to be happening, God is still on the throne. Greater is He that is within you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). Look to Jesus, who is the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrew 12:2), not to the news media, government, employers or anywhere else.

Consequently, if you were not managing your money wisely, the economic shift probably exposed your flaws and fallacies. Financial decisions of the past may have come back to bite you on the backside. Don’t be dismayed. God is a God of second chances. He is a merciful God, gracious, compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love (Neh 9:17). If your finances took a hit, forgive yourself and press forward.

So, how do we move forward from financial turmoil into financial healing? The writer of Psalm 118 gives us some insight on how to seek God in the midst of a trial. Let’s take a look at his approach:

1. Praise and Worship the Lord for who He. “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good and His love endures forever” (v.1).

2. Build up your confidence in the Lord and begin to confess the victory. “In my anguish I cried to the Lord and he answered by setting me free “(v.5). “The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies” (v.7).

3. Make your request know to God by asking directly for what you needed. “O Lord, save us; O Lord, grant us success” (v.25).

4. Conclude your petition with gratitude and thanksgiving. “You are my God and I will give you thanks, you are my God and I will exalt you” (v.28).

In short, cry out to God and ask for what you need financially, but be sure that you are asking in faith, not fear and worry. Without faith, it is impossible to please God and you first have to believe that He exists and that He is the rewarder of those that diligently seek Him (Heb 11:6). Be anxious for nothing, but with prayer and supplication and with thanksgiving, make your request known to God and may the peace of God guard your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus (Phil 4:6). When you cry out again, He’ll hear you from heaven and in His compassion, He will deliver you time after time (Neh 9:28). Follow the psalmist’s example and ask boldly, with confidence, gratitude and praise.

G-d of the survivor,
G-d of the mourner and the witness,

Grant solace and peace to those still held by physical, emotional and spiritual distress from the attacks of 9-11. Release them from visions of death and destruction, from guilt or shame, from fear or anger. Bind their wounds with Your steadfast love. Lift them on Your wings of kindness and grace.

Blessed are those who have found peace.
Blessed are those without tranquility.
Blessed are those who speak.
Blessed are those who stay silent.
Blessed are those who have healed.
Blessed are those who suffer.
Blessed are those who forgive.
Blessed are those who cannot forgive.
Blessed are You, Adonai our G-d, Source of strength for survivors of violence and tragedy in every land and in every age. Blessed are You, Rock of Israel, Source of hope and comfort.

A O9//11 Survivor: Nicole B. Simpson

On 9/11/2001, the United States was faced with the great tragedy of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Many people were directly exposed to this massive traumatic event. Researchers are beginning to understand the attacks’ enduring toll on mental health. Recent Studies have shown long-term psychological and neurological repercussions in adult witnesses who were near the World Trade Center and in children who lost a parent in the tragedy. On the eve of ten years later 09/11/11 we hear survivors sharing the long term consequences of the terrorist attacks.

World Trade Center survivor Nicole B. Simpson has faced many mental, spiritual, emotional and financial struggles over the years from the ill- fated day. Simpson documents in her book, 9/11/01, A Long Road Toward Recovery, how almost ten years since the ill-fate day, she as well as other survivors, still feel the after effects of the tragedy and its unknown enduring toll on their lives. Nicole B. Simpson went on a mission to determine first-hand the thoughts and emotions of people who survived. 09/11/01 A Long Road Toward Recovery represents the voice, thoughts, and the emotional journey of the 09/11 survivors. What are the survivors’ struggles and the effects this tragedy had on their family life, finances, career life and their relationship with God?

Recognizing the call of ministry on her life, even Simpson asked the question “Where was God?” Yet she recognizes that He was there all the time. This book not only shares frank eye-opening information in an easy to read personal and authentic manner, but the book offers hope to survivors. Simpson encourages survivors to embrace the destiny and purpose awaiting for them to fulfill. May their dedication to protecting life serve as a shining lamp of love

Pray Blessings Over Our Schools: United Community Prayer for Our Children and Schools by Linda Fegins

It’s back to school time. There have been back to school rallies and groups interested in addressing youth concerns. For example City of Detroit Council Members Saunteel Jenkins and James Tate held the Youth Violence Prevention Task Force’s first Back to School Youth Explosion on Saturday, September 3rd, 2011.The free event featured workshops for both kids and parents on issues affecting youth aged 12-18 including violence and sexual health concerns.

Rallies are great, but we also need to call for united prayer for the lives of children attending schools and “put feet to our prayers”. Many ministries have been calling for prayer for the children, teachers, administrators and school staff as they return back to school. On one 5am morning prayer conference call on My Girlfriends’ Business , Chief Girlfriend visionary Jillian Blackwell- a wife, mother of three boys and a business owner asked for prayer for the school children, teachers and administrators. The Messiah Baptist Church Intercessory Prayer Team under the guidance of Kimberly Bracey ( Intercessory Prayer Team Leader Linda Fegins) as well as various ministries , such as the Lydia Circle for Christian Business and Professional Women Prayer Team ( Director Min. Jacqui Showers ) will hold prayer meetings by conference call, three way telephone calls and at church , praying this week for protection, guidance and wisdom for our school children , youth and college students , parents and educators.

There is no doubt that “Moms In Touch International” (MITI) founded by Fern Nichols, a group of mothers around the country who simply desire to affect communities and schools through the power of prayer have been going before the throne of God. “The 27-year-old prayer ministry, Moms In Touch International has one goal–to gather women together to pray scripturally and specifically for children and schools. Mothers in more than 130 countries around the world meet regularly, spending an hour praying at least once a week.”(MITI purpose statement). They serve as prayer warriors who battle in the spiritual realm for the lives of children and teenagers as they go off to school for at least one hour every week. Prayers for the Cities of this Nation

My heart is heavy for our cities, not just mine ,which is the City of Detroit . Right now I say Lord we need forgiveness , deliverance and healing from the violence, unrighteousness and idolatry. We pray that a spirit of Nehemiah will arise to rebuild the cities with love, peace, righteousness, and preserverance to glorify God. We pray that a spirit of repentance will cover the city.

Name your city and we can pray together.

I challenge each of you to prayerwalk your block or a school and business in your neighborbood. Pray for household salvation, restoration, peace and reconciliation. Call the names of the schools and buisnesses. Let’s report on our united efforts , although we may be in different cities around the nation and world. Let’s testify as to how prayer has changed your city, neighborhood or school.

Some Prayer Points.
1. Use 2 Chronicles 7:14
2. Pray for God’s spirit of prayer and supplication to be poured out in the city.
3. Pray for those in authority in your city.
4.Ask God to bless those who base business practice in righteousness. 5. Pray that God would frustrate plans that escalate injustice, violence, unrighteouness and shake the dominion of mammon and greed.
6. Pray for a spirit of repentance t obe released for sin and unrighteouness and that a release of God’s grace in the city. Matt.12:29,Col 2:15
7. Pray for revival in your city.

Praying for the Ministry and Business of Minetta Hare- Remember Lydia -a Christian Entrepreneur Acts 16: 13-15, 40

I praise you , Creator God for making men and women in Your own image. Give creativity and good ideas to Your children who serve you in the marketplace. Fill them with your Holy Spirit, granting them the skills, abilities and knowledge needed to accomplish their tasks and goals and to glorify You. (Gen 1:27; Ex 21:3) Give them decisionmaking wisdom. God give Christians in the marketplace a spirit of wisdom and revelation so they can know and follow you in their work.( Eph 1:17; Prov 3:5-6; Is 30:21). God you hold the hearts of kings in Your hands. We ask that our Christian borthers and sisters in the workplace will find favor with key people. (Dan1:9; Eccl 4: 9-12) Grant them favor and may marketplace believers pursue excellence to your Glory. ( Prov 21:1; Phil 4:8) ( excerpt from Strategic Prayers for Marketplace Influencers by Arlyn Lawrence)

5 AM Praying with My Girlfriends’ Business. Chief Girlfriend and visionary Jillian Blackwell, and the women on the prayer call, for the month of August are praying for a girlfriend’s business or ministry each day. Since January 2011,daily women consistently join the 5 AM prayer call every morning all over the nation,- New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Atlanta, Detroit, Houston, etc to seek the Lord ,to pray for others, themselves and for their girlfriends’ business.

Many believers are business owners or have key positions in business. Christians in the workplace and business owners should have a practical and spiritual influence in the community. In the bible Lydia was a business woman who was a seller of purple dye and an influential women. While Lydia, who worshipped the one God of the Jews, and a group of others were praying by the riverside, they encountered Paul and Silas. Paul related to them the Gospel. Lydia opened her ears and heart and became the first Christian convert . She was baptized and then her household. She became a Christian and a marketplace influencer. The Bible states that she urged Paul to abide in her home and opened her home to Christian missionaries. She opened her doors when Paul and Silas came out of prison for healing a demented girl to her right mind. Acts 16:16 While serving Christians it seems that Lydia continued to carry on her business.

Believers should pray for entrepreneurs. Look at how businesses affect our economy and the workplace. We want God to move powerfully in the lives of business owners who operate in integrity and excellence. For example, on August 9, 2011, (yesterday) we prayed for Missionary/Evangelist Minetta Hare -a global focused woman, who empowers women in prayer, training, coaching, global missions and in global entrepreneurship. Her ministry is Faith At Work Ministries and one of her businesses is the Hare Group International. Minetta is the founder and visionary of Lydia Circle for Christian Business and Professional Women, Faith At Work Ministries and Men of Valor. She is a global woman that has a hands on ministry for serving woman and men in time of need and as they rise in their ministry or business with love, prayer, wisdom, frankness, compassion and the gift of hospitality. Remember to Pray For Our Soldiers and the Families of Fallen Soldiers

I love the television series “Army Wives” which focuses on the wives and families of soldiers. I watch it faithfully and set my dvr to record the series. For the last few years my heart has developed a compassion and burden for soldiers, especially women soldiers, fighting to protect our country in uncomfortable, dangerous and uncertain circumstances 24/7. Men and women endure long seperations from familiy and children and other challenges inherent to military service. If I hear of an incident or watch a story about soldiers I begin to pray for them. It is outrageous for physically and mentally wounded soldiers to come home and have to fight for benefits from injuries suffered from serving the country. My concern and compassion has nothing to do with any opinion I may have about the war in Afghanistan or Iraq or anywhere. That is another subject.

A young lady from my church just joined the military services. Kathryn, a once quiet shy child who barely spoke a word outloud, wants to be a vetenarian. She has grown into a blooming young woman in the Lord. She was beginning to let her light shine and was becoming more outgoing by leading the choir in song and praying out loud before others. I pray the Lord’s protection of her and that she will achieve her educational goals. How many of our young adults are bravely joining the military services?

Yes, we should take the time on Memorial Day to remember and honor our fallen soldiers ,as their families must think of them every day. Every day let’s lift up prayers for the courageous troops and their families who are actively serving our country each day, not only across the world in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere but, within our borders as well. The soldier place themselves in harm’s way for you and me.

Prayers for Servicemen and Service women(soldier)- Military-Armed Forces
• Pray for discernment and protection from the United States’ enemies that are among us, even as others plot against us from afar.

• Pray for the protection of our troops. May the soldier turn to You for rest and protection. Keep them safe from all hidden dangers, deadly diseases and accidents.

• Lord may the soldier not fear the guns of the night and may you hide them under Your protective wings and given them the discernment of how to escape the enemy.(Psalm 91:1-11) .Lord send your angels to protect them wherever they go and to help fight the enemy. Lord God help them fight the battle.

• Lord may the soldier experience Your mercy and compassion as they arise each morning. The Word states you are a faithful Father and that Your mercy and compassion never fails; they are new every morning. ( Lamentations 3:21-23)

• You are the Almighty and loving Father at the same time. Lord grant the soldier strength to carry out his or her duties. Lord give them endurance , courage and wisdom of how to use their skills to overcome adversity, and how to outwit the enemy. Lord when they are feeling weary I pray that look to You from where all their help comes from and that he or she knows that You can mount them up with wings like eagles so they can walk and not get weary. ( Isaiah 40:31).

• Lord I pray that he or she knows you as Lord and Saviour. Open their eyes so that they know the love of God for them.

• Lord I pray for the families of the servicemen and servicewomen while they are away from home. I pray for the children who miss their parents. Lord provide for their needs, comfort them and keep them.
• God you are a Healer. You are the Great Physician who can heal hearts, minds, broken bones, gun shot wounds and broken relationships. Heal servicemen and servicewomen who are suffering from mental and emotional problems , trauma and painful memories. Restore their minds and emotions. Lord we pray that the soldier receive all the benefits to which he or she is entitled.

• Pray for those who have lost a loved one in battle. These grieving families have paid the ultimate price. Lord comfort those who have lost friends and family members. Lord protect them and allow them to receive the necessary benefits they deserve.

National Day of Prayer- God is our Refuge Psalm 91:2

The 60th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place today Thursday, May 5, 2011. Millions will unite in prayer across the nation at various events. The theme, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God”, is based on the verse from Psalm 91:2 which states: “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Almighty God, you are our Mighty Fortress, our refuge and the God in whom we place our trust. As our nation faces great distress and uncertainty, we ask your Holy Spirit to fall afresh upon your people — convict us of sin and inflame within us a passion to pray for our land and its people. Grant the leaders of our country an awareness of their desperate need of wisdom and salvation in You until sin becomes a reproach to all and righteousness exalts this nation.
Protect and defend us against our enemies and may the cause of Christ always prevail in our schools, courts, homes, and churches. Lord God, send a spirit of revival and may it begin in our own hearts.
Remember America, we pray. Remember the foundations on which this country was built. Remember the prayers of our nation’s fathers and mothers, and do not forget us in our time of need.
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen
May God’s hand of wisdom and guidance remain upon each segment of our society, and through His Spirit, may believers be inspired to “pray continually” (I Thessalonians 5:17). We are assured that the Almighty hears our petitions. As people from coast to coast lift their voices in prayer, repentance and humility, we simply cannot underestimate how the Lord will respond.
