Love and Pray!

plindex

Happy Holidays with love.

May your Christmas and the Holidays be a Day and week  of Love that will lead into the New Year. Give the Gift that keeps on giving… LOVE! Give some and Receive some.Thank God that when the fullness of time came, Jesus came for YOU and me to make us sons and daughters. See Galatians 4:4

Hug on your loves ones and friends and let them know you care( even that relative who can be challenging some times). Time is precious so enjoy family and friends and get  rest. Also take time to write your specific  goals  with deadlines(SMART goals) for the New Year. In addition take some time for  reflection on what you have accomplished this year. Write down your top ten achievements this year. Write down the challenges that you have managed to overcome and handled well.
During this Holiday Season of joy , celebration and gathering with family and friends(and really all the year) remember those grieving from lost(divorce, death, rejection, failure) and suffering from illness and depression. Have compassion for the poor and lonely. This time of year is often depressing to many. Pray for them and then—- DO. Give a smile, a hug, an encouraging word, a touch, a donation, feed them, give a gift, visit them, and provide support and resources. We are God’s ambassadors (workmanship) created for good works. (Ephesians 2:10) Put hands and feet on your love and prayers.

Day 16-Day 21 40 Day Prayer Journey: Growing Within to Please God

49 days index

Thank you for joining the 40 Day Prayer Journey , “Growing by the Power Within to Please God: Repenting for a Renewed Relationship With God”. Philippians 2:13.

This is a daily prayer journey. Today’s prayer focus is a continuation of the 40 Day Prayer Journey which began on March 5 Ash Wednesday. See prior post for prior days.

The daily prayer points in this guide begin with stated scriptures applicable to the focus of the day. You are invited to seek God’s face to enable you to grow in the actions and thoughts that please God. You want to confess, repent and turn from actions and thoughts that grieve the Lord.

During the Forty Day Prayer Journey daily read the suggested scriptures. Meditate on the Word asking the Holy Spirit to speak to you and reveal in your heart how He wants you to respond personally and on behalf of your church or city. This is an opportunity for personal repentance. Ask the Lord to search your heart for thoughts and actions that are sinful. (Psalm 139:23-24) Allow the Lord to examine your life thoroughly.

During the 40 Day journey each of us are opening ourselves to be joyful by what pleases God and grieved by our actions, walk and talk that displease Him. We want to turn away from the things that displease God.

Pray the specific daily prayer points as well as other prayer points that the Holy Spirit brings to your heart. It is suggested that you write in a journal your reflections and what the Lord is saying to you.

Back to School with God Pray For Our Children by Minister Jacqui Showers

Let’s Pray for our Public Schools :for Teachers, Students, the DPS Board, Roy Roberts, Parents, Principals and the Support Staff

Join Minister, Author and Coach Jacqui Showers as Prayer Director for Faith at Works Ministry and Lydia Circle of Christian Business Women ( Visionary Minetta Hare) at 7:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Hart Plaza for our 15th Annual Prayer Gathering for the City of Detroit, Detroit Public Schools, business, arts, media, family, education, government, medical and health, entertainment, law enforcement and sports

While walking the track at King High School, I noticed a father and son working out. I became so enthralled with them I actually walked around the track two times more than I originally planned. Needless to say, I watched this father perform exercise routines with his son in preparation for the start of the school year.

Initially, they ran the track and then started doing exercises. It was then they really caught my attention. As I watched them I realized that one day, whether that son made it big in sports or not, he would remember that his Dad took time to help him improve his game. No doubt as he coached his son, he also provided life principles that would stay with that young man for the rest of his life.

Our children need us. They need us to provide much needed guidance and discipline. They need us to impart words of wisdom and encouragement. They definitely need us to pray for them. Our schools need us to pray for them as well.

Not so many years ago, prayer was taken out of our schools. Each of us is fully aware of the separation of church and state, as much as we are aware of the consequences of eliminating prayer out of our schools. Our school systems no longer incorporate prayer into their daily schedules. We have to coach our children about prayer and how they can incorporate it into their schools. The schools are mandated by law, but we are not.

Prayer has this interesting effect, the more you pray the more your faith increases. As your faith increases your mindset is transformed to think like a winner. This is what we have to do for our children. We have to help them in thinking and becoming winners. Teaching faith principles rooted in prayer culminates in a new perspective and a winning attitude that translates into winning actions.

This past weekend I united with other women in ministry who signed a “Back To School With God” pledge, in a long-term partnership to support the Detroit Public Schools (DPS). In addition, each one of us pledged to adopt a school and pray for that school, its administration, teachers and students throughout the school year. You can also join in the “Back To School With God” Pledge and Campaign by adopting a school and committing to pray for that school throughout the academic year.

Detroit Public Schools kick-off a week full of activities to promote community involvement and support for DPS Pride in preparation for the First Day of Teaching and Learning. Emergency Manager Roy Roberts extended an invitation for us to join him in this bold and ambitious movement where mediocrity in education for our children is no longer acceptable.

This upcoming Sunday, August 19, is DPS Church Sunday and faith-based supporters across the city will spread a positive back-to-school message. More than ever, our children need to know that we encourage them to strive for excellence because we are excited about their future. Yes, they need to know we are praying for and with them as well.

As the Prayer Director for Faith at Works Ministry and Lydia Circle of Christian Business Women, I’m extending an invitation for you to join us at 7:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Hart Plaza for our 15th Annual Prayer Gathering for the City of Detroit, DPS, business, arts, media, family, education, government, medical and health, entertainment, law enforcement and sports.

What we do for our children will have a lifelong impression on them. One thing for sure, we owe it to our children to do whatever it takes to ensure their success. That means not only praying for them, but praying with them as well.

Pray for 09/11 Survivors

For 9-11 Survivors

G-d of the survivor,
G-d of the mourner and the witness,

Grant solace and peace to those still held by physical, emotional and spiritual distress from the attacks of 9-11. Release them from visions of death and destruction, from guilt or shame, from fear or anger. Bind their wounds with Your steadfast love. Lift them on Your wings of kindness and grace.

Blessed are those who have found peace.
Blessed are those without tranquility.
Blessed are those who speak.
Blessed are those who stay silent.
Blessed are those who have healed.
Blessed are those who suffer.
Blessed are those who forgive.
Blessed are those who cannot forgive.
Blessed are You, Adonai our G-d, Source of strength for survivors of violence and tragedy in every land and in every age. Blessed are You, Rock of Israel, Source of hope and comfort.

A O9//11 Survivor: Nicole B. Simpson

On 9/11/2001, the United States was faced with the great tragedy of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Many people were directly exposed to this massive traumatic event. Researchers are beginning to understand the attacks’ enduring toll on mental health. Recent Studies have shown long-term psychological and neurological repercussions in adult witnesses who were near the World Trade Center and in children who lost a parent in the tragedy. On the eve of ten years later 09/11/11 we hear survivors sharing the long term consequences of the terrorist attacks.

Hope

World Trade Center survivor Nicole B. Simpson has faced many mental, spiritual, emotional and financial struggles over the years from the ill- fated day. Simpson documents in her book, 9/11/01, A Long Road Toward Recovery, how almost ten years since the ill-fate day, she as well as other survivors, still feel the after effects of the tragedy and its unknown enduring toll on their lives. Nicole B. Simpson went on a mission to determine first-hand the thoughts and emotions of people who survived. 09/11/01 A Long Road Toward Recovery represents the voice, thoughts, and the emotional journey of the 09/11 survivors. What are the survivors’ struggles and the effects this tragedy had on their family life, finances, career life and their relationship with God?

Recognizing the call of ministry on her life, even Simpson asked the question “Where was God?” Yet she recognizes that He was there all the time. This book not only shares frank eye-opening information in an easy to read personal and authentic manner, but the book offers hope to survivors. Simpson encourages survivors to embrace the destiny and purpose awaiting for them to fulfill. Simpson’s account speaks volumes as to how we are more than conquerors over adversity and obstacles with faith in God. Nicole is no longer a victim, but serves as a resource for people who have experienced trauma and catastrophic events in their lives.

“Let’s Get Started: Take the Time to Pray and Write Your Goals”- Part I by Linda Fegins

“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” ~ Corrie Ten Boom

“I do not count myself to have apprehended, but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the mark (goal) for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”. Philippians 3:13-14

Can you believe it’s almost March 1, 2011. When we were moving toward the New Year we heard a lot of talk, read articles and read notes and comments on Facebook about taking the time to write your goals for the New Year. See Fabulous PR coach Pam Perry’s article on the purpose of goals in this blog. https://ladyofprayer.com/?p=284 . Christian author Stacey Hawkins Adams spoke of writing about her goals for the 2011 New Year. She insightfully posted on Facebook, “I spent a few hours last night mapping out goals for the New Year, and I’m excited about challenging myself in several areas. Yet, while I plan, I know my future rests with the One who holds the master plan, so I must always start and end with Him”.

Well, what about you. Have you taken the time to write down the goals and steps you will take to achieve them? Admittedly, I am behind on fulfilling the entire task. I do not want to have any would’ a, should ‘a, and could have regrets about not accomplishing my goals for this year. You may not have written your goals earlier, but it is not too late for “mapping out your goals for this year”.

On Feb 23, 2011, author and Wife Coach Venus Mason-Theus , who is the visionary for the “Anointed Pen Conference” (http://www.anointedpenseminar.info) challenged me and other Facebook friends with the question “ What are your goals and what actions have you taken to achieve your goals so far this year? So I am asking you and I am challenging myself too, what three goals have you set for this year and what actions have you taken toward them?

Now, if you haven’t written your goals or have not taken any steps to achieve them, forget the past. Read the second quote at the very top of this page. Begin right now praying and thinking about writing your goals for the year. There is still time. Take the time to seek God’s face first, pray, meditate on the Word. Listen to what He states to you and write it down. If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time!”

A goal is a target, the desired end of our efforts. Paul talks about pressing toward the mark in Philippians 3:14. Having a goal doesn’t always mean hitting the target —but it does mean getting closer than you would have if you hadn’t had a goal at all. Someone once said, “It is better to aim for a star and hit a mountain than to aim for a mud puddle and hit it every time.” See Cynthia Bezek, “What are Your Spiritual Goals? July|Aug 2000 issue Pray! Magazine. The Bible encourages us to write our goals. Isaiah 32:8 says, “The noble man makes noble plans.” Proverbs 16:3 promises, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” We should have dreams and set goals to reach the dreams, but remember that God holds the authority to say “yea” or “nay”-veto power: “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails”. (Proverbs 19:2)

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things (temporal things, that is) will be added to you” (Matthew. 6:33). Some of your goals could be to be get out of debt, manage your time wisely, to exercise twice a week or to start a new business. However, one of our first goals should be to seek a closer relationship with God. Start praying and writing. Look for Part II by Wednesday March 2, 2011.

Setting Goals for the New Year- Start with Prayer…

Without prayer no work is well done” Anonymous

Embark upon no enterprise you cannot submit to the test of prayer”.

Today is January 17th, 2011, the day we honor Martin Luther King’s birthday and remember the DREAM. What dreams do you have in your heart that will make a difference in the lives of others as well as for you and your family? To carry out the dream we need to write our goals and action steps that will help us live out the dream. It is a good thing to have dreams, goals and to write specific goals ( see Pam Perry article http://ladyof prayer.com/?p=284 ). However, one ” first thing or goal” needs to be sought first. The first goal we should have is to develop, improve, and seek an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in prayer ( and study of His Word.). God wants a relationship with us/you. We should press, stretch and get out of our comfort zones to maintain a prayer relationship with Him. It is the goal that will have eternal benefits. It is the goal that will give us power, wisdom and guidance about all of our other goals such as improving family relationships, getting out of debt, starting that buisness, writing that book , starting an exercise plan or healing the relationship issues between balkc women and men(See thought rovoking articles by Gary Hardwick on this issue) Prayer is the key to unlocking God’s power in your life to carry out what God has placed in your heart.

Here is an article that arrested me by Phil Miglioratti, a member of the Church Prayer Leaders Network of which I am a member, about making prayer a priority life-style commitment as the one true foundational goal.

It Seems To Me . . by Phil Miglioratti

. . . we need only one spiritual new year’s resolution.
I confess, I have never been good at setting, let alone keeping, resolutions at the start of each new year. Those who stop smoking or start diets impress me; those who keep at it longer than a few days (or hours) make me jealous. And those who go beyond good health resolutions and set spiritual goals and stick to them throughout the coming months shame and humble me.

Anyone can make a resolution; it takes commitment to stay resolved to fight the battles to achieve the objective. And commitment, someone said, is moving beyond good intentions. I have a long list of good intentions.
Which is why Don Whitney’s “Questions for a New Year” in LifeWay’s Pastors Today E-letter caught my attention. The author, a former pastor and then seminary professor, presents 31 questions designed to aid our spiritual transformation; one-a-day spiritual vitamins! He writes: “The beginning of a new year is an ideal time to stop, look up and get our bearings.” I especially appreciate how he then formats his insights as questions because someone elses’ declarations call for my agreement (not a bad thing) but questions call for my reflection and discernment. Much more potential of Holy Spirit partnership.
But I said we need only one spiritual new year’s resolution, not 31.

“For starters, here are 10 questions to ask prayerfully in the presence of God,” Whitney begins as he sets us on our journey with wisdom that is so obvious we often fly right past it! How many of us have prayed about our resolutions but only after we selected them. “Help me lose those 5 extra pounds or start each day at the fitness center or stop this or begin that”–probably all worthy goals but chosen without and before any prayerful dialog with the Lord.
I began reading down the list of questions . . .

1. What’s one thing you could do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?
2. What’s the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?
3. What’s the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this year?
4. In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you do about it?
5. What is the single biggest time-waster in your life, and what will you do about it this year?
6. What is the most helpful new way you could strengthen your church?
7. For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year?
8. What’s the most important way you will, by God’s grace, try to make this year different from last year?
9. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year?
10. What single thing that you plan to do this year will matter most in 10 years? In eternity?

I searched first for any questions that related specifically to prayer and found #7, praying for lost persons to find Christ (imagine what changes our nation would see if every Christ-follower began to seriously pray for his or her neighbors by name and need and for his or her neighborhoods and networks!) and #9, focusing specifically on our own prayer life (someone said we need to exchange a prayer life [usually referring to a brief time spent telling God what we need Him to do] for a life of prayer). Two in the first ten seemed like better representation for prayer than usual. Very hopeful.
My second time through the list was an “Ah-Ha” moment!

Responding to the first, then the second and third and continuing, I realized “Pray” would be a more than appropriate answer to each question.
1. What’s one thing you could do this year to increase your enjoyment of God? Pray. True prayer is enjoying the presence of God, not merely telling him things he already knows.
2. What’s the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year? Pray. Praying is very hard work that, once accomplished, sees impossible results.
3. What’s the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this year? Pray. Especially out loud, together.
4. In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you do about it? Pray. Pray for a partner who will hold me accountable.
5. What is the single biggest time-waster in your life, and what will you do about it this year? Pray. What I do instead of praying is a huge time-waster.
6. What is the most helpful new way you could strengthen your church? Pray. For the pastor. For a reviving of faith and a revising of how we function.
7. For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year? Pray. Everyone agrees with this but not everyone brings up in heaven real names of real people.
8. What’s the most important way you will, by God’s grace, try to make this year different from last year? Pray. By praying about and for and through every thing.
9. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year? Pray. Read, study, use website resources, yes, but actually carve out time and place to pray.
10. What single thing that you plan to do this year will matter most in 10 years? In eternity? Pray. Hands-down winner. Everything (missions, evangelism, stewardship) flows from the life of a person who has moved beyond good intentions to a life of prayer.

It seems to me . . . we need only one word to describe our one spiritual new year’s resolution. (If you do not agree, will you at least agree to pray about it?)
For starters, here are 10 questions to ask prayerfully in the presence of God.

I Know a Real Life Missionary- Pray for Missionaries by Linda Fegins

Minetta Hare is in the yellow cap with blue cape out front.

Many of us may have an outdated stereotyped mindset about missionaries such as the image of the old colonialist type or the Catholic nun dressed in long dark clothing. However,  modern day missionaries do not fit into  a specific category . The one common factor they all must have in common is love for God’s people, and a mindset that is obedient to God’s command and their call to “Go” throughout the earth to deliver a word and to help the oppressed, downtrodden  and the lost.

For over 25 years I have known a woman of purpose, Missionary Minetta Hare. While she is an entrepreneur, and a “wanna be” comedian, her calling and passion is to serve God’s people as a missionary/ evangelist. She has traveled throughout Africa and Jamaica to heed the “Macedonian Call” where people need help. Minetta unashamedly states she is “called to make a difference in lives of others around the world” and knew this since she was a child. She is “dedicated and committed with great passion to her purpose in life to preach and teach Christ”.

She is the visionary for Children of Hope International. On November 4, 2010 for the 5th time this year she is traveling on  a mission tour  to bring medical supplies, clothes ,hope and a Word from God to those in need. On November 4th she will travel to South Africa, Botswana and Ghana. She needs partners of Hope to help raise funds to purchase the necessary medical supplies and materials for the upcoming mission tours. Her goal is to provide food, clothing, medicines and spiritual enrichment to orphans and abandoned children around the world. If you want more information or to partner with her, see her on Facebook or go to www.fawmissions.com.

On August 8 through August 19, 2010 she traveled to Ghana, West Africa to answer the call for help those who live in the midst of hopelessness, and despair. She needed to $10,000 to conduct a medical clinic, distribute free medicines, buy back the freedom of several enslaved children, clothe and feed them, provide shelter and food and most of all share the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  In 2009, her mission team served over 600 children including their families.

She has conducted an entrepreneurial training seminar for single mothers in Africa. The team introduced the new project and product – filtered water packs. This project will give the women an opportunity to earn a living and to provide for themselves and their children.

Missionaries need our prayers to carry out the “Great Commission” that the Lord spoke of in Matthew 28:19-20 to enable them to evangelize the world as well as our homes and cities. The evangelization of the world depends upon prayer.  ‘Missionaries are like soldiers on the front line of a fierce battle”, states one prayer warrior Heather Kaiser who has designed a prayer card for Missionaries and their families. So how or what should we pray for missionaries? Pray that:

  • He/she will minister without hindrances. Pray for protection, health, wisdom and protection.  Pray for the work God has called her /him to do throughout the nations.
  •  God will grant him/her good health and protect them from evil men and physical danger.
  • God will give him/her a wide door of opportunity to preach the Word and to free by the power of Your Word and the Holy Spirit those who are oppressed, depressed and lost.
  • Deliverance from the attack of the enemy and from physical, emotional and spiritual harm. (Rom 13:31)
  •  Jehovah Nissi will go before the team and prepare the hearts of those who will hear the Word and receive the medical help.  Let there be effective communication between those who minister and those who are ministered to. Provide clear language interpretation for all.
  • Pray that souls will be saved, men and women will be discipled and that spiritual growth will occur. Pray that he/she will make disciples who also can teach others to expand the kingdom.
  • Wisdom, divine revelation of God’s Word and sound judgment is exercised by him/her and the team.
  • The families of him/her and the others are at peace and comforted to know God has the team in his loving care.
  • Pray for his/her health and deliverance from disease.
  • Pray for more workers. Ask God to send more workers to help him/her to serve in the location.
  • Pray for fruitfulness.  Pray that he/she will bear much fruit from their labors for the Kingdom. (Gal 6:9; Col1:10).
  • Pray for financial support and resources to carry out the mission. Pray that the Lord will supply his/her financial needs. Touch the hearts of others to contribute before they are asked.
  • Pray for government stability and acceptance of the missionary.
  • Pray for marriages and the children of missionaries who must adapt to his/her calling. Numerous separations can be trying. Children can become rebellious and resentful.

Praising God for His Goodness Using His Attributes the Month of November

Let the People Unite IN  PRAISING AND WORSHIPING CHRIST AND IN PRAYING FOR HIS LORDSHIP IN EVERY PERSON, PLACE AND SITUATION IN OUR NATION

How: Worshiping Christ and Praying for His Rule/Presence Using 153 of His Names and Attributes

WHAT WE ARE PROPOSING WITH THESE NAMES AND ATTRIBUTES OF CHRIST

There are 153 names and attributes of Christ for which we will be praying and worshipping from now until the end of the year. (one for each day August 1 – December 31, 2010), The names and attributes of God are meant to be a “Portrait of Christ”, from the Old and New Testaments.    At this crucial time in history, He alone is our hope.  Man’s best plans and resources are grossly inadequate to overcome the challenges and needs of the Church and all people.

HOW EVERY CHRISTIAN CAN “FIX OUR EYES UPON JESUS” TOGETHER

1. Read the Scripture passage of the day a couple times and freshly devote ourselves to following Christ.

2. Worship Christ throughout each day according to His name/attribute of the day (be filled with awe and praise of His greatness and glory).

3. Pray continually (according to His name/attribute of the day) that Christ will rule in EVERY part of your life, in EVERY other person and situation He brings into your life throughout the day, and in EVERY person, place and situation that affects our nation.

What will God do if multitudes of believers saturate our spheres of influence with continuous worship of His beloved Son during the upc0ming 153 days?  What will God do in countless homes, churches, workplaces, schools, youth groups, local and national leaders, natural and manmade crises, the economy, and much more, if we fervently invite Christ to rule and reign in the authority of His names and attributes?   May we be desperate for the manifest presence of Christ.

Praise Him and think of His Goodness throughout the month of November and alway.

ONE AND ONLY SON

November 1 John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.”

LIVING WATER

November 2 John 4:9-15 The Samaritan woman said to Him (Jesus), “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman.  How can you ask me for a drink?”  (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)  Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water.”  “Sir”, the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep.  Where can you get this living water?  Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?”  Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.  Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”  The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to drink water.”

MESSIAH (CALLED CHRIST)

November 3 John 4:21-26 Jesus declared (to the Samaritan woman) “Believe Me, woman, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.  You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.  Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.  God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”  The woman said, “I know that Messiah”(called Christ) “is coming.  When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”  Then Jesus declared, “I who speak to you am He.”

THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD

November 4 John 4:39-42 Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Him (Jesus) because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did” (said the woman).  So when the Samaritans came to Him, they urged Him to stay with them, and He stayed two days.  And because of His words many more became believers.  They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

THE BREAD OF LIFE

November 5 John 6:25-27, 48-56 When they (the disciples) found Him (Jesus) on the other side of the lake, they asked Him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”  Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for Me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.  Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you.  On Him God the Father has placed His seal of approval….”I am the bread of life.  Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died.  But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die.  I am the living bread that came down from heaven.  If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.  This bread is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”  Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?”  Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.  Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.  For My flesh is real food and My blood is real drink.  Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him.”

THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

November 6 John 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

I AM

November 7 John 8:57-58 Jesus replied (to the Jews), “If I glorify Myself, My glory means nothing.  My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies Me.  Though you do not know Him, I know Him.  If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know Him and keep His word.  Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing My day; he saw it and was glad.”  “You are not yet fifty years old,” the Jews said to Him, “and you have seen Abraham!”  “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”

THE GATE FOR THE SHEEP

November 8 John 10:7-10 Therefore, Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.  All who ever came before Me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.  I am the gate; whoever enters through Me will be saved.  He will come in and go out, and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

THE GOOD SHEPHERD

November 9 John 10:11, 14-15 “I (Jesus) am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.  I am the good shepherd; I know My sheep and My sheep know Me—just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father—and I lay down My life for the sheep.”

THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE

November 10 John 11:25-27 Jesus said to her (Martha) “I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die.  Do you believe this?”  “Yes, Lord,” she told Him, “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.”

THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE

November 11 John 14:5-7 “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God; trust also in Me (Jesus).  In My Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going.”  Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”  Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.  If you really knew Me, you would know My Father as well.  From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.”

THE TRUE VINE

November 12 John 15:1-5 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.  He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.  You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.  Remain in Me, and I will remain in you.  No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.  Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.  I am the vine; you are the branches.  If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.”

THE AUTHOR OF LIFE

November 13 Acts 3:13-15 “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus.  You handed Him over to be killed, and you disowned Him before Pilate, though he had decided to let Him go.  You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.  You killed the author of life, but God raised Him from the dead.”

THE LORD OF BOTH THE DEAD AND THE LIVING

November 14 Romans 14:7-11 For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone.  If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord.  So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.  For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that He might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.  You, then, why do you judge your brother?  Or why do you look down on your brother?  For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.  It is written: “As surely as I live,” says the Lord, every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.”

TREASURE

November 15 2 Corinthians 4:7-12 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.  We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.  We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.  For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that His life may be revealed in our mortal body.  So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

HIS (GOD’S) INDESCRIBABLE GIFT

November 16 2 Corinthians 9:12-15 This service (giving generously) that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.  Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.  And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you.  Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift (of Jesus Christ).

OUR PEACE

November 17 Ephesians 2:11-15 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (that done in the body by the hands of men)—remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.  But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.  For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in His flesh the law with its commandments and regulations.  His purpose was to create in Himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace….

THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE

November 18 Ephesians 2:19-22 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone.  In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord.  And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.

A FRAGRANT OFFERING AND SACRIFICE TO GOD

November 19 Ephesians 5:1-2 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH

November 20 Ephesians 5:23-27  For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church, His body, of which He is the Savior.  Now as the Church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.  Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to Himself as a radiant Church, without stain or wrinkles or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

THE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD

November 21 Colossians 1:15-20 He (Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by Him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him.  He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.  And He is the head of the body, the Church; He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy.  For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.

THE FIRSTBORN OVER ALL CREATION

November 22 Colossians 1:15-20 He (Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

THE HOPE OF GLORY

November 23 Colossians 1:25-27 I (Paul) have become its (the Church’s) servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness—the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints.  To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

THE MYSTERY OF GOD

November 24 Colossians 2:1-3 I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally.  My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

HEAD OVER EVERY POWER AND AUTHORITY

November 25 Colossians 2:6-7, 9-10 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.  For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is head over every power and authority.

ALL AND IN ALL

November 26 Colossians 3:1-4, 11, 16-17 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.  For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.  Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.  And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

November 27 1 Timothy 2:1-6 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.  This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all men–the testimony given in its proper time.

THE BLESSED AND ONLY RULER

November 28 1 Timothy 6:13-16 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in His own time—God, the Blessed and Only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see.  To Him be honor and might forever.  Amen.

THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGE

November 29 2 Timothy 4:6-8 For I (Paul) am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure.  I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.

THE BLESSED HOPE

November 30 Titus 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.  It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for Himself a people that are His very own, eager to do what is good.
