Accordingly, “The Prayer Book Project” is a collection of true short stories, articles or testimonies about the following: your experience in learning to pray, experience on the prayer line, experience on the prayer boot camp, how God answered your prayer in adverse circumstances or in life’s stressful moments, how God’s ‘no” answer was a blessing and the best answer in a situation, the power of praying in unity, and how prayer changed you in a situation. Monifa Robinson Groover, a native of New York City, moved to Teaneck, New Jersey with her family at the tender age of twelve. Upon graduation from Teaneck High School, Monifa obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta, GA), as well as a Master of Social Work Degree from Smith College School of Social Work (Northampton, MA). After relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, and extensive work in the field of social services, she obtained a Master of Public Administration Degree with a concentration in Management from Troy State University (Atlanta, GA).

Monifa has devoted her life to helping others see the potential that lies within them. Having provided a number of services for diverse populations including but not limited to perpetrators of sexual crimes, individuals faced with substance abuse challenges and individuals in the criminal justice system; as well as having coached women entrepreneurs, her experience has taught her that neither position nor status dictate the level of pain and misfortune one may encounter. It was at this time she realized the call on her life was much greater.

In 2003 she released her first book entitled “Within Your Reach, Inspiration That Quiets the Mind and Soothes the Soul”. (ISBN: 1-930231-03-2). This book is filled with devotions that shows people how to strategically turn their pain into gain, tragedy into triumph and victimization into victorious living. She released her second book entitled “Change Beyond The Pain” in 2012 (ISBN: 978-0-9836776-0-4). This book provides a more in-depth look at how individuals can use the Word of God to transform their lives. It also shows them how to begin moving beyond the blows that life may sometimes deal.

Monifa has been called by God to help others reach their God-given potential. Her duty is to equip others with the proper tools and resources to move beyond their circumstances and live healthier and more productive lives, which she believes can only be found when one has a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Her personal journey, combined with her education and work experience, and most importantly her relationship with Jesus Christ, collectively play a vital role in the work she passionately does today. The Word of God tells us to be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Monifa Robinson Groover has written a very compelling guide book that teaches you how to go through the process to transform your life by facing hard questions and taking action steps to reach newness, healing and restoration in your life that lasts based on the Word of God. “Change Beyond the Pain” challenges you to honestly examine your life by answering question raised in this guide book strategically placed in the book. While some of the questions may seem a bit much and the word definitions like a lecture, her style of writing is like she is right there coaching you to let you know that this is for your benefit so that you can live the abundant life God has for you (John 10:10), so you please Him and will be delivered from past hurts and mediocre living. Coaches push you to your highest good and potential and this book challenges and moves you to press forward through the pain and past.

Change in life is inevitable but we just don’t want to react to change, Monifa stresses that “transformation is a choice” which will allow you to be victorious over the changes that occur in your life. I enjoyed the workbook style of each chapter and the sharing of real life experiences. “Change Beyond the Pain” is a great tool to help you begin the journey of transformation. I loved Monifa’s statement that Faith = Movement and the chapter on the faith you must have to complete this transformation journey.

Faith… But First You MUST BelieveIn order to please God, we MUST have faith. In order to surrender to God’s will, we MUST have faith. In order to embrace God’s perfect plan for our lives, we MUST have faith. In order to under¬stand God’s perfect timing, we MUST have faith. Faith is at the core. It is at the very center. This concept cannot be ignored; neither can it be pushed to the side and dealt with at a later time. Some may ask, if this concept is so important why are we just now talk¬ing about this in Chapter 7. My answer to that is very simple. DAY 29 – March 12 Demonstrate God’s Grace
40 Day Prayer Journey to Life Transformation

We have been pressing through these 40 days of prayer and repentance. How have you been challenged, growing, laying aside weights and sin, and being renewed toward transformation? God is love and He wants us to demonstrate that love in our relationships with the “saved” and those who do not know Jesus Christ personally. We should live as a demonstration of His love, grace, mercy and truth so that we will glorify Him and that someone may be saved through Him. Invite the Holy Spirit to search your heart to reveal areas where transformation needs to occur in you, and in the church. Today on this 29th Day let us walk in the grace of God and show grace to others.

Scriptures: John 1:14-18; Acts 4:32-33; 11:19-24; 14:1-7, 21-28; 1 Peter 4:7-11

Repent: Of not walking in the love and grace that God has bestowed upon you; of receiving grace but not demonstrating grace to others; of not walking in the grace He give us to live a life of power and testimony that glorifies Him. Of___________________________________. (Fill in the blanks).

Receive: Grace to live according to His commands and His call upon our lives; His grace to be and to do all that He requires of us to do to bless others, to build up His Kingdom and to glorify Him.

Pray:
• Confess to the Lord the ways you have not walked in love and grace with the lost, your neighbor and family members.
• Pray for you and the church to receive a fresh revelation of the marvelous grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
• Pray that you learn to see grace as a gift we have received and are to bestow freely upon others and that you are generous to bestow grace to others as you have freely received.
• That restoration of graciousness in our attitude, speech and actions will be demonstrated in you and will permeate the church.
• Ask the Lord to do a work in your heart that will release you from any spirit, thought or unforgiveness that blocks your relationship with those who do not know Jesus Christ, your neighbor and family members.
• Praise God that He is gracious, full of compassion and abounding in mercy; that we are recipients of His saving, redeeming, and delivering grace.

DAY 16 – February 28 – Walking Together in Love and in Unity
40 Day Prayer Journey to Life Transformation

We have being praying for a spirit of repentance in all areas of life. First, for a week we sought the Lord in repentance in our relationship with God. Last week we prayed about our relationships in our family. This week for a few days we will pray about how we function together as a body of Christ-worshipping, serving and loving as one. How do the various church congregations and denominations work together in unity and in the Spirit of love so that God is able to accomplish what he wants the church to do?

Scriptures: Romans 12:9-21; 1 Peter 4:7-11; Psalm 133; Ephesians 4:1-6

Repent: Of the times when love has not been the motivation behind the actions, attitudes or words spoken within the fellowship of believers; of actions that were not done in love; of the words and actions that have caused division, schisms and disagreements that keep the body of Christ from walking together.;

Meditate, pray and write down other areas for which you need to repent.

Pray:

1. Pray that the church would walk in love for one another without hypocrisy, and out of a pure heart.
2. For the love of Christ to permeate His church so that the world would see and believe that God loves them and sent His Son so that they might be saved.
3. That our city will be transformed by the presence of Christ as we cry out in humble and faith-filled intercession.
4. For humility and passion to permeate the local congregations across our city, uniting us in pursuit of the Lord and releasing revival fire.
5. For denominations and churches all over the city would grow in unity of the Spirit, love peace, and purpose so that the world might see the power, love and grace of God through Jesus Christ manifested in the body of Christ.
6. Pray that the denominations and church congregations would put aside petty differences and pride to work in unity to God’s Kingdom agenda.
7. For a revival in the City of Detroit such that the City will become known as a city of prayer.

DAY 17 -March 1- Walking Together in God’s Vision and Pursuing God Together
40 Day Prayer Journey to Life Transformation

Meditate, pray and write down other areas from which you need to repent.

Pray:

• For God to be recognized for who He is, for His work in the lives of all.
• Pray for every member of the body of Christ to discover our place in the body of Christ and come into proper relationship with the other members.
• For each member to walk faithfully in God’s gifting and calling to build up others.
• That members of the congregation world walk together in love, unity and in embracing and pursuing God’s vision.
• That the leaders and the congregation will know the vision God has for each congregation that fits within His purposes for their city, region and nation.
• Pray for humility and passion to exist in the local congregation all across the city, uniting us in pursuit of the Lord and releasing revival fire.
• For church leaders and to lead congregations with love and meekness to seek the Lord in one accord

DAY 18 -March 2- Walking Together in Unity
40 Day Prayer Journey

This past week we have been praying about our relationships in the body of Christ. The Lord wants us to be fitly joined to other believers. It is important that we learn to function together as the body of Christ.

Scriptures: Psalm 133; John 17: Ephesians 4:1-6

Repent: Of the many things that allowed division, dissension and schisms to keep us from walking together at Messiah and as the body of Christ; of harboring, judgments, prejudices and prideful attitudes toward fellow believers.

Meditate, pray and write down other areas from which you need to repent.

Pray:

1. That all congregations all over the city would grow in the unity of the Spirit.
2. That petty, differences, pride, and selfish ambitions would be laid down for the sake of reflecting the purposes and character of God.
3. For unbelievers to accept Jesus Christ as Savior and to see Him for who He is.
4. For the humility and unity among believers that will give rise to sincere praise and worship of the Lord in the beauty of His Holiness.
5. That God is able to accomplish what His church needs.

Linda Fegins and Minister Jacqui Showers in downtown Detroit at 7am praying for the City of Detroit, the marketplace, the educational system, children and standing in the gap for others with other women of the Lydia Circle Christian Business and Professional Women( visionary and founder Minetta Hare) , Faith At Work Ministries and other ministries.

Pray for entrepreneurs, businesses and the workforce.
Pray for the election process for safety, fairness of the process and the dismantaling of voter suppression.

It’s Possible

Salvation can still come to your household-husband, father, son, dau…ghter, brother…..
God can turn it around..
You can make it through the week….
You can live victoriously…..

Seek God’s face. Pray without ceasing 1 Thess.5 :17, Believe His Word.

Pray. Ask. Believe. Hear.

Your job is to take care of the possible and trust God for the impossible

Last week I mentioned how women gathered to pray for their children and the Detroit Public School system and other school systems on the last Saturday in August early in the morning at 7 A.M.. You will see below a video of one of the fervent prayers that went forth. It will bless your soul. I forgot to mention that some fathers gathered with us to pray as well. That touched my heart to see fathers praying for their children and calling for other fathers to pray for and take a stand for their children. These fathers challenged fathers to join them in walking their children to school on the first day of school.

Our community and cities around the world must cry out to the Lord for the students, teachers and school staff in their congregations and those who participate in the educational system. I praise God for the influence and impact of our collective prayers on the students and staff. Cry out today “Lord bless our schools”, See Lam 2:19 and then also specifically and scripturally pray the prayers below or as led by the Holy Spirit.

Through prayer, families, our children’s lives, and our world can be changed. God will show us how to use the power that believers have within through the Holy Spirit to transform our schools and deliver them from violence, disorganization, and poor administration. Through united consistent prayer, God will give us the power, wisdom, knowledge, and creativity to solve the many school problems that plague our city schools and school board. We must put what I call “some feet on our prayers”. Through prayer the right leaders will arise to enable the community to come together to take productive and strategic action.

What can you do first of all? Pray. Wednesday I will identify other action steps you can take.

Listen to the fervent heartfelt prayer of Minister Jacqui Showers for our students and school system. After the video, I listed specific prayers you can pray for our children. Pray them. Wednesday I will give prayer points to pray for teachers and the administration followed up with prayers for parents. Please let me know if you are joining in prayer with me for our children.

Pray:
• Daily pray for the safety of our children and that God will deliver them from evil and thwart every scheme of the enemy. Lord we pray that you cover the children and youth through the blood and “stay the hand of violence against the children and staff of the school. Dismantle any plan to bring harm to them. Expose any weapon brought on the school premises and render it harmless”. (From Power-Packed Prayers for Public Schools by Ida Rose Heckard)

• Pray for those students that experience rejection and bullying from other students and teachers. Pray that God deliver them from evil and bind and cast out violence and degradation. Ask God to provide children with people that love and respect them unconditionally. (John 13:34; Romans 15:7) Pray that the school is sensitive to these issues and address them effectively.

• Pray that our children will be open to learning new knowledge and to acquire both secular and spiritual knowledge. Pray that God would give them the wisdom to know how to understand and use that knowledge and they use it rightly and for good. (Proverbs 22:6) (2 Timothy 2:15)

• Pray for our sons and daughters to make wise choices and to develop solid friendships with those who are following God. (Psalms 144; 12-15)

• Pray for relief of those children who are homeless and need shelter, food and health care. Pray that Christ will restore their home for the future. (Psalms 107:41)

• Ask God to cause your children to be examples for believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. (I Timothy 4:12).

• Pray for those students that are struggling academically. Ask God to encourage them and strengthen their minds. Pray that God will give their teachers and parent’s wisdom to know how to best help them learn.

• Pray that students will not feel like failures, but will learn discipline and know that God loves them. (I Thessalonians 5:14)

• Pray that the Lord encourage those children who have special needs and “who have struggled with their studies to strengthen their minds. Help the teachers and parents know how to help them learn and protect them from feelings of worthlessness and shame. ( I Thess 5:14)” (From Ida Rose Heckard)

Back to School with God – United Prayer for our Children by Linda Fegins

Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children” (Lam. 2:19)

School started in early September for most school districts. We need to consistently pray for our children, parents, teachers, the school board and the entire school system. On August 25, 2012, the Lydia Circle for Professional and Business Christian Women and Faith At Work Ministries led by Prayer Director Minister Jacqui Showers and a host of women and other ministries came together at 7 am in downtown Detroit at Hart Plaza to pray for the Detroit Public School System (DPS) and other schools, as well as for the City of Detroit, government, business/commerce, family , media, church and arts and entertainment.Yes, we united in prayer on a Saturday morning at 7 in the morning.

Public schools with all the violence, disorganization, poor administration, and politics on the school boards can be transformed. Yes our educational system can be changed significantly. It will be changed by two important actions. Our public school system can and will be changed by united and individual prayer, then by our obedience when God calls believers and intercessors as I say “to put feet on their prayers” and to take strategic action.

We prayed for and the schools are experiencing amazing “God changes”. I pray that the movement of prayer is rising up in revival-like proportions within schools by the students, parents and the administration. I pray that many student-led prayer groups are springing up in middle and senior high schools. I pray for better test results, higher graduation results, teachers with a zeal for teaching and the spirit of excellence, safe environments, and the cessation of violence and bullying in the public schools.

There is no doubt that “Moms In Touch International” (MITI) founded by Fern Nichols, a group of mothers around the country who simply desire to affect communities and schools through the power of prayer have been going before the throne of God. A diversified group of mothers, MITI serve as prayer warriors who battle in the spiritual realm for the lives of children and teenagers as they go off to school for at least one hour every week. They are women united with one purpose: a passion to pray for their children and their schools.

Can prayer change public schools? Believe it!

Pray over your children, the teachers, the school board and the administration.

Praying for Laborers in the Workplace by Linda Fegins

“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessing and prosperity will be yours. Psalm 128: 1-2 (NIV)

The September 3, 2012, Labor Day holiday will be celebrated by families around the country with picnics, barbecues, and road trips. In this election year politicians will appear at the rallies. Working families in hundreds of towns and cities will honor workers and the work they do. Many national and local unions will be celebrating the holiday in marches and parades with political candidates attending to garner votes.

Due to the fiscal distress of municipalitie and politics, many areas of the country have seen challenges and changes to the public employment workplace culture and unions. Many of the affairs of municipalities in fiscal distress have endured governing authorities appointing emergency managers who union leaders consider anti-worker and anti union contracts because emergency managers can change or suspend contracts and privatize work that union laborers once performed. Repealing the emergency manager law in Michigan is a high priority for labor unions.

In remembering those who work for the good of their families, the community and our nation we can offer prayers for them. In this changing workplace culture we need to pray for laborers in both private and public sectors. Pray:

1. That God will reveal the dignity and honor of work with excellence for a fair return and reasonable benefits.
2. That workplaces would be a setting of safety and a place where workers will be treated with justice, respect and dignity.
3. That workers will be treated fairly and work will not be privatized at rates that are higher than the what laborers were paid for.
4. For continued employment in the changing global economy.
5. That laborers would pray in the workplace where permissible.
6. Pray for wise and fair supervisors and managers.
7. Pray for political leaders to be men and women of integrity, honor and wisdom that make sound decisions that follow God’s standards for the work place in the public sector.

While walking the track at King High School, I noticed a father and son working out. I became so enthralled with them I actually walked around the track two times more than I originally planned. Needless to say, I watched this father perform exercise routines with his son in preparation for the start of the school year.

Initially, they ran the track and then started doing exercises. It was then they really caught my attention. As I watched them I realized that one day, whether that son made it big in sports or not, he would remember that his Dad took time to help him improve his game. No doubt as he coached his son, he also provided life principles that would stay with that young man for the rest of his life.

Our children need us. They need us to provide much needed guidance and discipline. They need us to impart words of wisdom and encouragement. They definitely need us to pray for them. Our schools need us to pray for them as well.

Not so many years ago, prayer was taken out of our schools. Each of us is fully aware of the separation of church and state, as much as we are aware of the consequences of eliminating prayer out of our schools. Our school systems no longer incorporate prayer into their daily schedules. We have to coach our children about prayer and how they can incorporate it into their schools. The schools are mandated by law, but we are not.

Prayer has this interesting effect, the more you pray the more your faith increases. As your faith increases your mindset is transformed to think like a winner. This is what we have to do for our children. We have to help them in thinking and becoming winners. Teaching faith principles rooted in prayer culminates in a new perspective and a winning attitude that translates into winning actions.

This past weekend I united with other women in ministry who signed a “Back To School With God” pledge, in a long-term partnership to support the Detroit Public Schools (DPS). In addition, each one of us pledged to adopt a school and pray for that school, its administration, teachers and students throughout the school year. You can also join in the “Back To School With God” Pledge and Campaign by adopting a school and committing to pray for that school throughout the academic year.

Detroit Public Schools kick-off a week full of activities to promote community involvement and support for DPS Pride in preparation for the First Day of Teaching and Learning. Emergency Manager Roy Roberts extended an invitation for us to join him in this bold and ambitious movement where mediocrity in education for our children is no longer acceptable.

This upcoming Sunday, August 19, is DPS Church Sunday and faith-based supporters across the city will spread a positive back-to-school message. More than ever, our children need to know that we encourage them to strive for excellence because we are excited about their future. Yes, they need to know we are praying for and with them as well.
