Pray for Laborers and Their Pensions and Benefits

“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessing and prosperity will be yours. Psalm 128: 1-2 (NIV)

The September 2, 2013, Labor Day holiday will be celebrated by families around the country with picnics, barbecues, and road trips. Working families in hundreds of towns and cities will honor workers and the work they do. I’m going to march in the Labor Day Paradein the city of Detroit to show support for laborers.

Due to the fiscal distress of municipalities and politics, many areas of the country have seen challenges and changes to the public employment workplace culture and unions. Many of the affairs of municipalities in fiscal distress have endured governing authorities appointing emergency managers who union leaders consider anti-worker and anti union contracts because emergency managers can change or suspend contracts and privatize work that union laborers once performed. Governor Snyeder has appointed Attorney Orr Emergency Manager over he City of Detroit. Emergency Manager Orr has filed for Bankruptcy for the City of Detroit. Retirees and labors now fret about what is going to happen to their pensions and benefits.

In remembering those who work for the good of their families, the community and our nation we can offer prayers for them. In this changing workplace culture we need to pray for laborers in both private and public sectors. Pray:

1. That God will reveal the dignity and honor of work with excellence for a fair return and reasonable benefits.
2. That workplaces would be a setting of safety and a place where workers will be treated with justice, respect and dignity.
3. That workers will be treated fairly and work will not be privatized at rates that are higher than the what laborers were paid for.
4. For continued employment in the changing global economy.
5. That laborers would pray in the workplace where permissible.
6. Pray for wise and fair supervisors and managers.
7. Pray for political leaders to be men and women of integrity, honor and wisdom that make sound decisions that follow God’s standards for the work place in the public sector.
8. Pray for the protection of the pensions and benefits of retirees and those in the labor force in the City of Detroit and around the nation. Lord protect the fruit of their labor.

Cry Out in United Community Prayer: Blessings and Specific Prayerd Over Our Schools and Children: by Linda Fegins

It’s back to school time. We need to call for united prayer for the lives of children attending schools and “put feet to our prayers”. Many ministries have been calling for prayer for the children, teachers, administrators and school staff as they return back to school. Faith At Work Ministries and the Lydia Circle for Christian Business and Professional Women Prayer Team ( Director Min. Jacqui Showers, Visionary Minister Minetta Hare) along with myself Linda Fegins will be at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit on August 31 at 7am praying for our schools as well as for law, education, government, media , the marketplace, and the City of Detroit.

Parents and the community need to unite in prayer in our neighborhoods on the school steps and serve as prayer warriors who battle in the spiritual realm for the lives of children and teenagers as they go off to school for at least a half and hour to one hour every week.

Let’s begin to cry out to the Lord for the students, teachers and school staff in our communities.

Cry out today “Lord bless our schools”, See Lam 2:19 and then also specifically and scripturally pray the prayers below or as led by the Holy Spirit. Through prayer, families, our children’s lives, and our world can be changed. God will show us how to use the power that believers have within through the Holy Spirit to transform our schools and deliver them from violence, disorganization, and poor administration. Through united consistent prayer, God will give us the power, wisdom, knowledge, and creativity to solve the many school problems that plague our city schools and school board. We must put what I call “some feet on our prayers”. Through prayer the right leaders will arise to enable the community to come together to take productive and strategic action.


Prayer Points for Our School ChildrenChildren and Youth

Pray:
• Daily pray for the safety of our children and that God will deliver them from evil and thwart every scheme of the enemy. Lord we pray that you cover the children and youth through the blood and “stay the hand of violence against the children and staff of the school. Dismantle any plan to bring harm to them. Expose any weapon brought on the school premises and render it harmless”.( from Power-Packed Prayers for Public Schools by Ida Rose Heckard)

• Pray that our children will be open to learning new knowledge and that God would give them the wisdom to know how to understand and use that knowledge. We need to pray that our children have the ability to discriminate between good knowledge and bad knowledge. Teach a child to choose the right path, and when he is older he will remain upon it. (Proverbs 22:6)

• Pray that our children will be serious minded and work hard to acquire both secular and spiritual knowledge. Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

• Pray for the hearts of the students to be receptive to the gospel of peace and that God will call many to Himself. (Acts 2:38-40)

• Pray for our sons and daughters to make wise choices and to develop solid friendships with those who are following God. (Psalms 144;12-15)

• Pray for relief of those children who are homeless and need shelter, food and health care. Pray that Christ will restore their home for the future. (Psalms 107:41)

• Ask God to cause your children to be examples for believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. (I Timothy 4:12

• Pray for those students that experience rejection and bullying from other students and teachers. Ask God to provide them with people that love and respect them unconditionally. (John 13:34; Romans 15:7)

• Pray for those students that are struggling academically. Ask God to encourage them and strengthen their minds. Pray that God will give their teachers and parent’s wisdom to know how to best help them learn.

• Pray they will not feel like failures, but will learn discipline and know that God loves them. (I Thessalonians 5:14)

• Pray that the Lord encourage those children who have special needs and “who have struggled with their studies to strengthen their minds. Help the teachers and parents know how to help them learn and protect them from feelings of worthlessness and shame. ( I Thess 5:14)” (from Ida Rose Heckard)

While walking the track at King High School last year, I noticed a father and son working out. I became so enthralled with them I actually walked around the track two times more than I originally planned. Needless to say, I watched this father perform exercise routines with his son in preparation for the start of the school year.

Initially, they ran the track and then started doing exercises. It was then they really caught my attention. As I watched them I realized that one day, whether that son made it big in sports or not, he would remember that his Dad took time to help him improve his game. No doubt as he coached his son, he also provided life principles that would stay with that young man for the rest of his life.

Our children need us. They need us to provide much needed guidance and discipline. They need us to impart words of wisdom and encouragement. They definitely need us to pray for them. Our schools need us to pray for them as well.

Not so many years ago, prayer was taken out of our schools. Each of us is fully aware of the separation of church and state, as much as we are aware of the consequences of eliminating prayer out of our schools. Our school systems no longer incorporate prayer into their daily schedules. We have to coach our children about prayer and how they can incorporate it into their schools. The schools are mandated by law, but we are not.

Prayer has this interesting effect, the more you pray the more your faith increases. As your faith increases your mindset is transformed to think like a winner. This is what we have to do for our children. We have to help them in thinking and becoming winners. Teaching faith principles rooted in prayer culminates in a new perspective and a winning attitude that translates into winning actions.

Let’s unite with other women where each one of us pledge to adopt a school and pray for that school, its administration, teachers and students throughout the school year. You can also join in the “Back To School With God” Pledge and Campaign by adopting a school and committing to pray for that school throughout the academic year.

More than ever, our children need to know that we encourage them to strive for excellence because we are excited about their future. Yes, they need to know we are praying for and with them as well.

5 Summer-Time Prayer Action Steps by Phil Miglioratti

It’s a good thing for families to pray together. That includes the children. Below are suggestions for corporate prayer activites for your individual family and the church family.

1. Family Table ~ Ask every family to take at least one family meal each week to pray for their neighbors (who live nearby, people they work with, fellow students …) AND to keep a log of the names and the needs the Lord leads them to pray for. During a Sunday morning service in August, ask families to come prepared to share their prayers and God’s responses.

2. Church Picnic ~ before the festivities begin, ask every family to form a circle and to pray (facing inward) for the Church and then to pray (now facing outward (for the community)

3. Weeknight Prayer Meeting ~ take the prayer time outside (if some cannot handle the walk or the heat, they may stay inside and pray) and use this as a template: Ask everyone to pray with their eyes open, looking at (and praying for):
1. God’s creation, then
2. the church facilities, then
3. north (is there a school north of the building?)
4. south (business district?)
5. east (hospital?
6. west (homes?)

4. Secret Saint ~ You’ve heard of Secret Santa? (you receive a gift but do not know who it is from) How about asking everyone in the congregation to become an in-secret intercessor? Assign everyone (include youth and older children) someone to pray for on a Sunday morning (a reverse offering; everyone picks a name as a basket is passed) then the following Sunday simply ask for testimonies of what is was like to pray once-a-day- for their person or anyone sensed a special blessing from the Lord because someone was praying for them.

5. Pastoral Prayer ~ recruit someone to “pinch hit” for the pastor over the summer; encourage them to pray from their deepest passion

Narrowing the Gaps

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18).

I am on a journey to narrow the gaps of unawareness of Christ’s Presence within me so that this verse can take root in my spirit and grow to fullness. If it is God’s will for me to rejoice always, pray without ceasing and give thanks in the midst of all of my circumstances, then I need a complete transformation of my heart, mind and will! I have sensed God urging me to make my life a prayer…to live in such a way that a spirit of prayerfulness rooted in worship and gratefulness invades every moment.

Father, I long to be aware of Your perfect Presence each and every minute in my day…from the most exciting times to the most mundane moments. May every place I walk, every relationship I engage in and every thought in my head be holy for Your sake because You have ordained my steps, given me grace to love others, and taken my every thought captive. As I seek You in the midst of every day life, may I rejoice always and give thanks in every circumstance so that You are continually glorified.

Prayer Points
Praise God as the one worthy of the worship of our entire lives (Rom. 12:1-2). Give thanks for God’s mercy shown to you personally. Confess times of conforming to the pattern of this world. Commit yourself to the continual renewing of your mind. Ask God to be true to his promise that you will be able to test and approve what is his will.

Pray that each of God’s people will be reminded of the different gifts he or she possesses, according to the grace of God (12:6). Ask that they be further equipped through worship to use those gifts for God’s kingdom (12:7ff.).

What Color Is Father?

This month we celebrate Father’s Day. Let’s honor fathers, who may not be perfect, but who love their children, train their children, protect their children and have good relationships with their children.

There have been a lot of negative images projected in the community about fathers, especially black men . However, we cannot allow all fathers to be painted with a negative and dark brush. Last year the week prior to Father’s Day I challenged men and women to share positive comments and reflections about their father. Kimberly Bracey Superintendent of Sunday School, Minetta Hare, entrepreneur and missionary, and Renee Wallace ,known as the Chief Doer and strategist, shared some warm and loving comments about their fathers.

Minetta’s father over 40 years of marriage to her mother, taught her about the importance of supporting your family, faithfulness in your endeavors, how to save and make money and provoked her entreprenurial spirit . Kim Bracey will tell you she thought her father was “God” for the longest because he provided for her and was there everytime she needed him. She talks about her father with so much admiration. Rene’s over 70 year old father still talks as if this middle aged daughter was his responsibility. Jeanette Johnson’s father has been dead for over 12 years but she talks about her father frequently with love and respect. Her honor and respect for his wisdom radiates from her heart for this man who only had a third grade education, but was full of wisdom , strength, and integrity who provided for his children and adored his wife. When she speaks of him you can hear and feel the respect and honor she has for him. It was touching to hear their comments.

Jesse A. Cole, Jr. an author, has stepped up to the challenge of training and working with young males to provide guidance and direction. Cole’s book Walk Like A King: The Young Man’s Guide To Conquering The World ,was written specifically with young men in mind . In responding to a question as to what in Coles experience lead him to help young men walk like kings he responded as follows:

“I have had the privilege of seeing my father and other great men walk out there manhood before me. I’ve seen them at their highest points as well as their lowest. And the way they handles the pressure of manhood was kingly. Because of their examples, I am able to do the same and deposit back into the next generation of young kings.”

And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children , and the heart of the children to their fathers. Malachi 4:6

I challenge you to share and leave your positive comment and reflections about your father, grandfather, stepdad or father figure. Share the color of the loving, positive, supportive relationship you had with the father figure in your life.

Prayer for Fathers

Lord in the name of Jesus, we thank you for fathers who love, train, provide for and protect their children. We pray that fathers will look to God as their ultimate spiritual father of their household, serving and caring for their children and families; we pray that absentee fathers would change their mindset and lifestyles to nurture a relationship with their children. We pray that the Lord will turn the hearts of the father toward their children and the hearts of the children toward their fathers. Malachi 4:6. We pray that children will see the godly character of the heavenly Father in the lives of their dads.
Lord we thank you that you are a Father to the fatherless and One who will never leave nor forsake us. Lord raise up fathers in the church and community to love, nurture, instruct and guide those in need of a father’s blessing. Lord turn the hearts of the fathers toward their children and the children toward their fathers. We pray for single fathers who are raising their children without a spouse to share the love and responsibility for their upbringing. Lord we pray about the disintegration of the family unit in our land, and ask God to restore the foundations both in and out of the church. Psalm 68:5-6; Proverbs 17:6 In the name of Jesus Amen.

Memorial Day 2013-Honor Our Soldiers

As we begin this Memorial Day weekend, I want to take a moment to thank the brave men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces and who are serving today. My father, Charlie Fegins, served at Pearl Harbor during World War II and was on the USS New Orleans when the attack occurred. He survived and came home. He was awarded a World War II Victory Medal. I want to thank those who have sacrificed their lives in service to their country and never came back home alive.

Last year I remember watching 60 minutes as the show reflected on the heroism of our soldiers. It also exposed the many issues of mental, emotional and physical issues our veterans face ;as well as homelessness. My heart was touched as well as broken. Dr. Rita Nakashima Brock, Ph. D writes about how many veterans have come home “morally injured” and struggle to overcome homelessness, mental issues and other struggles ,which this nation must more effectively address. I prayed at home alone for our soldiers while watching 60 minutes.

Again I thank the men and women soldiers for their service and their sacrifice. Like Senator Carl Levin stated “it’s absolutely essential that we honor our commitment to provide them with the very best care and support available. They’ve fought for us, and we need to keep fighting for them.” Senator Levin further stated “Around the world our troops are carrying out a broad array of challenging and dangerous missions. Wherever they are stationed, our troops and their families deserve our gratitude for their selfless service and their sacrifices”.

As you enjoy this holiday with friends and family take time to give thanks to God for our veterans who have served our country and for those on active duty who serve today. To our men and women in harm’s way, our prayers are with you. Take the time to pray for the veterans and their families who suffer physical and mental aliments and those who may be homeless. Pray for the protection of our soldiers serving around the world and at home in the United States. Pray as follows:

• Pray for those who have lost a loved one in battle. These grieving families have paid the ultimate price. Ask that God’s comfort would be upon them in a special way .
• Pray for our wounded service members and their families. Pray for mental and emotional healing as well as physical healing. Pray they obtain the necessary medical and other services they need and deserve.
• Pray for divine protection and guidance for our armed forces. Ask God to intercede for military chaplains and loved ones at home.
• Pray for the courageous troops, and their families, who are actively serving our country each day , not only at bases around the world, but also here within our borders. Our soldiers daily place themselves in harm’s way in order to defend the way of life we hold dear as well.
• Pray the Lord’s protection will go before them.
• Lift up the chaplains stationed around the world, along with the Christian servicemen who unofficially fulfill a role of spiritual leadership.
• Pray for discernment and protection from the United States’ enemies that are among us, even as others plot against us from afar.

Today and this week- Pray for the healing of the nations. Pray for the world. Select a nation to pray for Read about the nations and pray for its concerns. It’s biblical.
Pray with a vision of repentance and hope.

“In Isaiah 56:7 God calls His church to be a house of prayer for all nations! Therefore His call throughout the ages was to pray continually (1 Thess. 5:17). It is prayer that connects us with God’s heart for a broken world and ignites and inspires us to go and be the answers to our own prayers by loving His world and gathering the harvest.”( See source of content below)

United by a Prayer for the World, Christians from all over the world, from different cultures and denominations, from many diverse streams will gather in their homes, or where appropriate, assemble in stadiums, public auditoriums and open squares and many will devote portions of their Sunday morning Service to united prayer.

Pray with the same vision of repentance and hope. As at the first Pentecost, we’ll worship God openly in Christ’s name and pray for the healing and blessing of the nations. As much as possible, we are seeking to gather in places beyond the walls of our church buildings. Pray at block clubs. Prayer walk your neighborhood.
On this day we are all praying WITH the world as we pray FOR the world.

PRAY WITH ONE VOICE
A Prayer for the World

Almighty God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
We gather with believers all over the world,
to glorify You as Creator of heaven and earth.
You alone are holy and righteous.
We submit to Your authority.
We praise and adore You alone.

Father, we honour You
Lord Jesus Christ, we honour You
Holy Spirit, we honour You

Our Father in heaven,
Thank You for loving the world so much
that You gave Your only Son, Jesus Christ,
to die on the cross for our sins
so that we could be reconciled to You.
Fill us with your love as we faithfully intercede for the lost,
the hopeless, the helpless and the world.

Thank You Father, for adopting us into Your family.

Lord Jesus Christ,
You died on the cross and
redeemed us to the Father by Your blood.
You are Head of the Church
and Lord of all heaven and earth.
Let Your kingdom be established in every nation of the world
bring transformation among peoples of all tribes and languages
so that righteousness and justice will prevail.
May Your Name be great, from the rising of the sun to its setting.

Jesus Christ, You are Lord of all.

Father of mercy and grace,
We have sinned.
Our world is gripped by the power of sin.
Our hearts are grieved by injustice, hatred and violence.
We are shamed by oppression, racism and bloodshed in our land.
We mourn all loss of life in murder, war and terrorism.
Our homes are broken and our churches are divided by rebellion and pride.
Our lives are polluted by selfishness, greed, idolatry and sexual sin.

God of mercy, forgive our sins.
Pour out Your grace and heal our land.

Spirit of the living God,
Transform Your Church into the image of Jesus Christ.
Release Your power to bring healing to the sick,
freedom to the oppressed and comfort to those who mourn.
Fill us with compassion
for the homeless and the hungry
for orphans, widows and the elderly.
Give us wisdom and insight for our world’s problems
to use the resources of the earth for the well-being of all.

Holy Spirit, guide us and lead us.

Lord Jesus Christ,
You destroyed sin, conquered death and defeated Satan.
Remove the veil of darkness that covers the peoples.
Restrain the evil that promotes violence and death.
Deliver us from demonic oppression.
Break the hold of slavery, tyranny and disease.
Help us to tear down strongholds and ideologies
that resist the knowledge of God.

Almighty God, deliver us from evil.

King of Glory,
Come and finish Your work in our cities, our peoples and our nations.
From all continents and islands we cry:
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
Be lifted up ancient doors
so that the King of glory may come in!

Come fill the earth with the knowledge of Your glory
as the waters cover the sea.
The Spirit and the Bride say:

Amen! Come Lord Jesus!
