40 Day Prayer Journey

Hopefully each of you will join me in this 40 Day Prayer Journey. Step into this forty (40) day prayer journey and adventure of repenting and praying toward the desires and promises of God to enable us to grow in our spiritual walk. Let each of us as individuals and as a corporate body grow in grace, in service and deed, in love for God and each other and into a lifestyle of individual and corporate prayer. Know that you won’t be praying alone. God is orchestrating this corporate prayer of which YOU are an important part.

. United prayer can bring powerful results. Pray with purpose, biblical promise and passion. Let’s all continue with one accord in prayer and supplication (Acts 1:14a) during this Lenten season.

Scripture makes prayer a priority of the church. The Lord said “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples”. (Isaiah 56:7 RSV).

Suggested Logistics

What follows is a suggested format for the journey. You may need to modify it to fit your schedule or medical restrictions. You are encouraged to use a journal or notebook to write your reflections, what the Lord is speaking to you, your prayers and/or prayer requests.

During the Forty Day Prayer Journey it is suggested that you:
1. Fast at least one day per week preferably Wednesday (see information on fasting included in this packet). Alternatively, you can fast a food or activity the entire Lenten season. See Fast Guidelines.
2. Select a Prayer Partner or two (Triplett) to pray together at least once a week as you determine for your schedule.
3. Daily pray the intercessory daily prayer focus and prayer points for that date. Read the Bible and the scriptures.
4. Read the scriptures listed in the daily prayer focus. Answer the questions in your journal if there are any for that day and write down your reflections. Meditate on the Word each day.
5. Make an entry in your journal each day or as led by the Holy Spirit. Make sure you the complete the “Something to Act On” exercise section where it appears from time to time in the daily prayer focus.

The First 7 Days We Will Focus on Repenting For A Renewed Relationship With God

The Lenten Season (February 18 to April 4, 2015) is a time of repentance, self-examination, fasting and prayer in preparation for Resurrection Sunday (Easter). Today seek God with a repentant heart (See Joel 2: 12-24) and honestly search your heart (Psalm 139:23-24). As you pray through the 40 Days of Prayer Journey allow the Lord to examine your life thoroughly.

DAY 1 – Feb 18, 2015- Ash Wednesday the Beginning of Lent

Scriptures: Psalm 139: 23-24 ; 1 John 1:9 ; Psalm 32:5; Acts 3:19

 23 Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!

No one is perfect. But we all can surrender our lives to God and let Him work through us. It is important that each of us possess a clean heart. This is required as a part of God’s call for you to get right before Him for a closer relationship with Him , to enable you to do the work He has called you to do and to receive the blessings He has in store for you. To do that you must examine yourself carefully.You have to confess your sin and repent. You must be brave enough to say “Lord, show me what is in my heart, soul, mind and spirit and life that shouldn’t be there. Convict me where I am missing the mark. Tear down my arrogance, pride, fear and insecurities and help me to see the truth about myself, life and my circumstances. Expose me to myself, Lord and help me to take it. Enable me to correct my ways.” Prayer by Stormie Omartian.

Now, you say the prayer or another for yourself.

Confess: Confess to God any sins of thoughts or actions that He shows you.

Repent: Of all the things that you have confessed.

Meditate, pray, and write down other areas for which you should repent.

Reflect on repentance and on what way you want to improve in your prayer life to deepen your relationship and friendship with God to enable you to rise in the spiritual things of God.

Pray:

• Confess the ways that you have been complacent about sin and not appalled that His Holy name is defiled.
• Confess any sin that the Spirit brings to your attention.
• Ask God to reveal to you a new understanding of repentance and His holiness.
• Express to the Lord your desire to repent for the sake of His holy name.
• Ask God to search your heart and life and to reveal to you any sin you may need to deal with.
• Repentance means to change your mind and be determined not to do the sin again. It means to turn and walk the other way and that we are sorry about our sin to the point of grief. Ask God to open your eyes, ears and heart to feel real sadness and sorrow about your sin and to turn your heart and mind to repent. Thank Him for the gift of repentance.
• Pray for God to strengthen your prayer life and deepen your relationship with Him.
• Pray for your Pastor and His family.

 Something to Act On: Write your own prayer of repentance to the Lord.

DAY 2- February 19 Repenting For A Renewed Relationship With God

Scriptures: Job 42:1-6; Isaiah 58:1-6

Repent: Of _________________________________________________.

Meditate, pray, and write down areas for which you should repent.

Reflect on repentance, what you want to release in your life and on what steps you need to take to improve your prayer life and to deepen your relationship with God.

Pray:

• Pray that the message of repentance will penetrate your heart and the members of Messiah or your church.
• Job learned that there was no room for arrogance or misinterpretation of true repentance. He meekly took back everything he thought he knew and then sat in ashes. Ask God to forgive you for trying to justify your attitudes and mindset. Pray that your life will demonstrate a deeply repentant heart and attitude toward God without excuses or explanations.
• Confess the ways you have taken the message of repentance lightly and tried to soften the reality of your sin.
• Pray that the message of repentance will penetrate the members of your church.
• Pray that leaders at your church will walk in true humility and a deep reverence for the Lord.
• Pray for MEN – Pray that men will seek God and honor Him with an integrity that unites their lives in faithfulness, wisdom, and truth; that their vision of masculinity would be a Christ-like servant leadership in the family, church and world.
• Pray for God to strengthen your prayer life and deepen your relationship with Him.

DAY 3-February 20 – Repenting For A Renewed Relationship With God

Scriptures: Daniel 9:1-5; Jeremiah 6:16-26

Repent: Of ________________________________________________________.

Meditate, pray, and write down areas for which you should repent.

Reflect on repentance, what you want to release in your life and reflect on what steps you need to take to improve your prayer life and to deepen your relationship with God.

Pray:

• For Christ to bring people near enough to God to experience the Father’s loving delight in His Son for people to love and follow Jesus.
• Approach the throne of God humbly and thank Him for forgiveness and His gift of repentance.
• Ask God to stir a continual heart of repentance in you.
• Pray that the message of repentance will be taught and preached at Messiah with grace and mercy-but without compromise.
• Ask the Lord to free people in your life from Satan’s trap and then lead them to repent.
• Pray that your community will be redeemed and restored through an outpouring of God’s gift of repentance.
• Pray that you will lay aside every sin and rise toward the spiritual ways and thoughts of God.

The Lenten Season (February 18 to April 4) is a time of repentance, self-examination, fasting and prayer in preparation for Resurrection Sunday (Easter). Renewing your sense of who you really are before God is the core of the Lenten experience and repenting of your sins. Today seek God with a repentant heart (See Joel 2: 12-24) and honestly search your heart (Psalm 139:23-24). As you pray through the 40 Days of Prayer Journey allow the Lord to examine your life thoroughly (daily post this month). See prior post on repentance.

Resist the tendency to deny the need to repent and be cleansed of the Lord. Be transparent with the Lord. God offers so many wonderful results of repentance, including healing, restoring, freedom, joy and reconciliation. In Acts 3:19 the call to repentance brings hope and renewal: “Repent, then, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord”.

Repentance is a change of mind that involves both a turning from sin and turning to God. Christ began his ministry with a call to repentance. (Mathew. 4:17).

We must examine every attitude, every motive, every action and ever word of evil. Repentance means that you are deeply godly sorrowful and hurt about what you have done unto the Lord and that you are determined to do all that you can not to commit that sin again. “Repentance means we are sorry about our sin to the point of grief, and we have turned and walked away from it”. Stormie Omartian, “The Power of a Praying Woman” p. 40, Harvest House Publishers, (2002).Before we can truly repent we must admit our sins and tell them to God. Confession means we recognize we have done wrong and admit it. Our prayer life will suffer as God will not hear our prayers if we have iniquity in our hearts (Psalm 66:18).

God offers many wonderful results of repentance, including healing, restoring, freedom, joy and reconciliation. In Acts 3:19 the call to repentance invites you to “repent, then turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord”.

Here is an example of a prayer of repentance to help you get started in initiating self-examination , prayer and a spirit of repentance.

Prayer of Repentance

Lord, I come humbly before You and ask you to cleanse my heart of my every sin. “Have mercy on me O, Lord according to your loving kindness and blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly of my iniquity and cleanse me of all of my sin. (Psalm 51:1-2) Lord create in me a clean heart. Please Lord renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10-11). Forgive me for thoughts I have had, words I have spoken and things that I have done that are not pleasing in your sight and do not glorify you. Father, forgive me I pray for my sins of_______(state them)________________________. I confess it is a sin and truly repent of these acts, words and thoughts. ( 1 John 1:9; Psalm 32:5 Proverbs 28:13, Psalm 51:6, 10). Lord search the inwards hidden places of my heart and reveal my sin to me that I may not see. (Psalm 139: 23-24). I seek to repent of everything that You show me Lord. I confess my sins to you in the full realization that you are faithful and just to forgive me of all my sins and to cleanse me from all unrighteousness.( 1John 1:9) I know that my sins are against You and You only. Grant me a broken, willing spirit and a contrite heart so I can offer it to You (Psalm 51:1-4, Psalm. 51:12, Psalm 51:17).

Thank you Father. I desire to obey your commandments and statutes. I choose to stop my sinful ways and to turn to walk upright. Help me, Lord God to bring forth fruits that are worthy of repentance (Luke 3:8). Lord I want to live a righteous, pure and holy life through your power (Colossians 1:11). I am determined to walk in the Spirit and in your ways and walk away from my sins by the power of the Holy Ghost. Grant me a godly sorrow that is not just full of regret because of the consequences of sin but sorrow that leads to true repentance (2 Corinthians 7:9-10). Lord give me a tender heart that is sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit and the conviction of sin. Holy Spirit, thank You for convicting me of my sin. Forgive me for the ways I’ve ignored Your voice and quenched and grieved You. (John 16:8; Ephesians. 4:30; 1 Thessalonians 5:19; Romans. 8:1-2). Lord I praise you, Father, for your goodness that leads to repentance (Romans 2:4). Lord thank you for restoring my soul so that the times of refreshing my come (Acts 3:19). Repent to Obtain A Renewed Relationship With God

The Lenten Season (February 18 to April 4) is a time to repent, of self-examination, fasting and prayer in preparation for Resurrection Sunday (Easter). Renewing your sense of who you really are before God is the core of the Lenten experience and repenting of your sins. Today seek God with a repentant heart (See Joel 2: 12-24) and honestly search your heart (Psalm 139:23-24). As you pray through the 40 Days of Prayer Journey allow the Lord to examine your life thoroughly (daily post this month).

It is important to note that a repentant heart is not limited to a special season or time of the year. If we want to have effective prayer lives which bring forth life transformation and healing of the land, repentance must become a part of our lifestyle.

It is one thing to know that you have done something that is wrong. But it is another to be saddened and sorrowful about your actions and determine that you will turn away from that sin and never do the act again. To repent “I” or “we” must come to terms with and acknowledge that we have sinned and then turn away from such sinful behavior and be reconciled back to our loving Lord. Therefore, repentance is a change of mind that involves both a turning from sin and turning to God. Christ began his ministry with a call to repentance. (Mathew. 4:17).

Before we can truly repent we must admit our sins and tell them to God. Confession means we recognize we have done wrong and admit it. We cannot hide from God no matter how we try. God knows what “I” have done and wants “me and you” to know and admit in detail what “I” have done. Dick Eastman, in “The Hour That Changes the World”, says, “Confession is a heartfelt recognition of what we are. It is important to God because it indicates that we take seriously our mistakes and failures. Of course, God does not ask us to confess our sins because He needs to know we have sinned, but because He knows that we need to know we have sinned”. Dick Eastman, “The Hour That Changes the World”,p.42 , Baker Book House, (1999). If we do not confess our sins one consequence is that our prayer life will suffer as God will not hear our prayers if we have iniquity in our hearts (Psalm 66:18).

Here is an example of a prayer of repentance to help you get started in initiating self-examination , prayer and a spirit of repentance.

Prayer of Repentance

So that you can begin the process of self-examination through prayer, confession, and study of the Word that leads to repentance the following action steps are suggested:

Action Steps:
1. During the Lenten season I want to encourage you to join this or a 40 day Prayer Journey even if you are beginning at day 7 or whatever day. Just begin where you are. Determine to spend quality time with the Lover(God) of your soul every day. Decide to start out with half an hour and increase it slowly. Be diligent, consistent and be faithful. We can never grow or develop an intimate relationship with God unless we spend quality time with Him.
2. Confess any sin you may be guilty of against man and God. Ask God to search you and reveal any unconfessed sin to you daily.
3. Say or write a prayer of repentance out of your heart. Above is an example of a prayer of repentance. Your prayer need not be perfect, but sincere, sorrowful and heartfelt.
4. Have a journal. God has so much to speak into your life. It may not happen overnight if you haven’t been praying on a consistent basis. But remember He is right there. Don’t give up.
5. Leave a prayer request or comment.

KINGDOM DECLARATIONS! My 2015 Declarations.
The Year of Divine FAVOR, Overflowing BLESSINGS & Manifested EXPECTATIONS!

I choose to initiate God’s promises and BLESSINGS for my life in the New Year by declaring them as true. He is the “God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were” (Romans 4:17, NIV).
The power in a blessing is in speaking it! Because I believe that God has more wonderful things planned for me than I can even imagine (Ephesians 3:20) for the coming year.
Today I declare that:
I am blessed with God’s divine purpose, FAVOR and perfect plan for my life.
I am blessed with gifts, God-given abilities and guidance.
I am blessed with strength of character, self-determination and self-control.
I am blessed with family and friends, faith and freedom.
I am blessed with health, happiness, favor and fulfillment.
I am blessed with promotion, protection, prosperity and provision.
I am blessed with spirit of obedience, supernatural success and a positive outlook on life.
I am blessed with a fresh start and a new outlook on life, beginning today.
I am looking forward to the NEW thing God will do in my life this year.
I choose to let go of the past and get excited about my future because I am BLESSED and Highly FAVORED!

Describe yourself for our visitors.
I am an inspirational author and a freelance writer. I graduated from LeTourneau University with an MBA. I love empowering African American women to embrace and wear their natural hair. I have been wearing my natural hair since 2007. I‘ve worn an afro, braided hair styles, twist and traditional locs . I currently wear sisterlocks. My natural hair journey is the inspiration behind my book Marvelous Are Thy Works.

How do you find time to connect with God?
When I am home, I don’t watch a lot of television. I spend time in prayer and meditation daily. I make the time and effort to commune with God.

What inspired you to write this book?
My inspiration behind Marvelous Are Thy Works is that I am passionate about the natural hair movement. I love empowering African American women to embrace and wear their natural hair. People of all races often asked me questions about my sisterlocks. I enjoy educating people about my natural hair.

Who are your favorite authors and why?? Favorite books?
I love to read non-fiction books by inspirational authors. I loved Bishop T.D. Jakes’s book called Reposition Yourself as it taught me how to heal from my past and to break generational curses while moving into my destiny.
One of my favorite fiction books is Kinky Gazpacho by Lori Tharps. Lori shared her experience living abroad in Spain and how the Spanish perceived her brown skin and kinky natural hair texture.

Tell us about your journey to publication.
I am a self published author. I worked hard on my project with the support of my editor. It took me two years to complete my novella.

When did you begin to realize you wanted to write?

I realize that I wanted to write when I was in high school. I excelled in my English classes since I was in the third grade. I contemplated majoring in journalism in college but instead I chose business. I took writing courses for my electives.

Tell us about your current book?

Fatima, her best friend Lauryn and her cousin Sheba are natural hair stylist at All Natural Hair Salon in Washington, DC. Fatima wants to build a brand and invest into other business ventures for their salon. She wants to empower African American women by hosting speaking engagements about the natural hair movement. She desires to travel nationally spreading her message. Her business partners Lauryn and Sheba have their own plans for their careers. They are going through different life events and struggling to maintain their friendships while doing business together. Ephraim is Fatima’s long time boyfriend. He hasn’t asked for her hand in marriage after dating her for over five years. Fatima has to stand on her faith and follow her instincts as makes decisions for her future.

How did you come up with ideas for this book?

The concept for my book is based on meeting a lot of African American women who shared in my experience going natural. I’ve had discussions with stylist at natural hair salons.

What valuable lessons do you want readers to learn from your book?
I want women to be enlightened about the natural hair movement as wearing natural hair is a personal choice. I hope my readers are inspired, empowered and are entertained as they read about the lives of Fatima, Lauryn and Sheba.

What’s next for you?
I am excited about the next assignment that God has given me. I am writing a story about healing, forgiveness and restoration. I’m almost finished with my final draft to send to my editor.

Chapter 1
All Natural Hair Salon’s busiest time was the first weekend of the month. Fatima made it to the salon at ten o’clock that morning. After parking her car in front of the salon, she noticed Lauryn and Sheba were already inside. The front window shades were pulled back and the lights were on.
“Good morning, ladies,” Fatima said as she walked through the door.
“Good morning, Fatima,” Lauryn answered, while sashaying to her workstation in her high heels and locs pulled back into a lobster tail style. Always the diva, Lauryn appeared to be in a good mood and eager to work.
“Hey, girl, you finally made it in,” Sheba said as she sorted through her laundry bag of towels. Her hair was loose in a kinky and curly twist-out hairstyle. She was dressed comfortably in white skinny jeans.
“Are there any messages for me?” Fatima asked.
“A young lady called to make an appointment. She requested a low maintenance hairstyle.”
“What time did she call?” Fatima inquired.
“She called a few minutes before you walked in,” Lauryn replied. “She said her name was Danielle Evans.”
“Did she leave her phone number?”
“I put it on your desk,” she said.
Fatima continued to her station so she could check her itinerary for the day. It was unusually free. “I’ll just work a half day and meet up with my honey later,” she told her co-workers.
Fatima then sat in her chair and started daydreaming about the day she would become Mrs. Ephraim Okoye. She could not wait to see him.
“Ladies, what are your plans today?” Fatima questioned.
“I have a couple of appointments for locs retightening, and I got a new client scheduled this morning. He’s a chef and new in town.” Lauryn smirked while doing a shimmy with her shoulders to show her excitement.
“A new male client? Girl, you be pullin’ the men,” teased Sheba.
“I need to pull a husband.”
“Baby, I met my husband when I wasn’t even lookin’. I was minding my own business down at the Farmer’s Market and––”
Lauryn rolled her eyes. “Sheba, you’ve told that story so many times,” she said, cutting Sheba off and looking down at her iPad to show her disinterest in hearing it again.
Sheba walked over to Lauryn and tapped her on the knee with her forefinger. “When you least expect it, that’s when you’re gonna meet him. It happened to me, girl!”

Veterans: Honoring their Service and Lives

Let’s thank the brave men and women who have served in our nation’s armed forces as we honor veterans on Veteran’s Day. My father, Charlie Fegins, served at Pearl Harbor during World War II and was on the USS New Orleans when the attack occurred. He survived and came home. He was awarded a World War II Victory Medal years later when he was in his seventies. That was a proud moment in our family and to his much younger nephews who also had served in the service years later.

I remember watching 60 minutes a couple of years ago as the show reflected on the heroism of our soldiers. It also exposed the many issues of mental, emotional and physical issues our veterans face ;as well as homelessness. My heart was touched as well as broken. I begin to pray for our veterans while watching 60 minutes. It has been noted by experts that many veterans have come home “morally injured” and struggle to overcome homelessness, mental issues and other struggles ,which this nation must more effectively address.

Again let us thank the men and women soldiers for their service and their sacrifice. Like the former Senator Carl Levin stated “it’s absolutely essential that we honor our commitment to provide them with the very best care and support available. They’ve fought for us, and we need to keep fighting for them.” Senator Levin further stated “Around the world our troops are carrying out a broad array of challenging and dangerous missions. Wherever they are stationed, our troops and their families deserve our gratitude for their selfless service and their sacrifices”.

Give thanks to God for our veterans who have served our country and for those on active duty who serve today. To our men and women in harm’s way, our prayers are with you. Take the time to pray for the veterans and their families who suffer physical and mental aliments and those who may be homeless. They have faced gunfire, explosives and hard conditions we cannot even think about. However, upon returning home they cannot find employment and are homeless. Many veterans have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder by the Veterans Administration or other disorders but have been denied disability pension or other benefits. Our country must be more vigilant and compassionate about providing the necessary services for our veterans in a timely and effective manner with all deliberate speed.

Pray for the protection of our soldiers serving around the world and at home in the United States. Pray for our veterans who have come home. Pray as follows:

• Pray for our physically and emotionally wounded service members and their families. Pray for mental and emotional healing as well as physical healing. Pray they obtain the necessary medical and other services they need and deserve.
• Pray for veterans’ families- for peace, love , forgiveness and that their physical , medical and economic needs.
• Pray for homeless veterans that they will receive the resources and the shelter they can obtain; pray for their protection and health.
Pray that they know that the Lord Jesus Christ loves them and that they know Him as their Lord and Savior. Pray for the salvation of their souls.
Pray for their peace of mind, strength, comfort and grace. May the Lord grant them favor.

The Main Tool To Overcoming Rejection by Keith Taylor , II

Rejection can happen to anyone and does every day. It can cause different emotions in a person, which causes them to handle it in different ways. For example, when a person feels rejected they may experience depression.

The first suggestion for overcoming rejection (many will tell you) is the clinical approach. You know sitting on the couch telling a psychtriast your problems and than being prescribed medicines. However, there is another solution and it is the main tool to overcoming rejection.

The tool is having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It means staying rooted and grounded in God’s word and understanding that you will be rejected but the way you handle that rejection makes all the difference. It also means taking all that you are feeling about being rejected and turning it over to God. It is important you remember that you can overcome anything with God because He is your strength.

Pour out your heart like water in the presence of the Lord. Lift up your hands to him for the lives of your children” (Lam. 2:19)

School has started. We need to consistently pray for our children, parents, teachers, the school board and the entire school system. Through prayer, families, our children’s lives, and our world can be changed. God will show us how to use the power that believers have within through the power of the Holy Spirit to transform our schools and deliver them from violence, disorganization, and poor administration. Through united consistent prayer, God will give us the power, wisdom, knowledge, and creativity to solve the many school problems that plague our city schools and school board. Through prayer the right leaders will arise to enable the community to come together to take productive and strategic action to transform our educational system and our schools.

Yes, our educational system can be changed significantly. It will be changed by two important actions. Our public school system can and will be changed by united and individual prayer, then by our obedience when God calls believers and intercessors as I say “to put feet on their prayers” and to take strategic action.

Let’s pray that a movement of prayer is rising up in revival-like proportions within schools by the students, parents and the administration. I pray that many student-led prayer groups are springing up in middle and senior high schools. Let’s pray for better test results, higher graduation results, teachers with a zeal for teaching and the spirit of excellence, safe environments, and the cessation of violence and bullying in the public schools.

Can prayer change public schools? Yes, back to school prayers and prayer period can. Believe it!

Parents and the community need to unite in prayer in our neighborhoods and on the school grounds to serve as prayer warriors who battle in the spiritual realm for the lives of children and teenagers as they go off to school and colleges for at least a half hour to one hour every week. Let’s challenge ourselves to daily pray for the safety of our children and that God will deliver them from evil and thwart every scheme of the enemy. Lord we pray that you cover the children and youth through the blood and “stay the hand of violence against the children and staff of the school. Dismantle any plan to bring harm to them. Expose any weapon brought on the school premises and render it harmless”.( from Power-Packed Prayers for Public Schools by Ida Rose Heckard).

Pray for the school your child attends as you drive your child to school .Pray for a school in your neighborhood. Encourage your children to pray for their school and teachers.

Here’s a prayer for the safety of your children and a prayer to help them with achievement.

Heavenly Father, you are the sure defense of our children, you are the rock of refuge, their high tower, and their protector. How I praise you and thank you for the certain knowledge I have that you care for my child, you will be with him/her always and you will keep him/her from the evil one.

Lord, you saved Israel from the hands of the enemies time and time again. You delivered your people and helped them to dwell in safety. Be a very present help to my son/ daughter__________________(state their name )as he/she goes out to play, goes to school, attends college and faces the challenges and responsibilities in our society.

Honoring Laborers

“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessing and prosperity will be yours. Psalm 128: 1-2 (NIV)

The September 1, 2014, Labor Day holiday will be celebrated by families around the country with picnics, barbecues, and road trips. Working families in hundreds of towns and cities will honor workers and the work they do.

Due to the fiscal distress of municipalities and politics, many areas of the country have seen challenges and changes to the public employment workplace culture and unions. In the City of Detroit Governor Snyder appointed Emergency Manager Attorney Orr and his team of lawyers, Jones Day, to file Bankruptcy for the City of Detroit. He has implemented changes in the pension plans and benefits that resulted in the suspension of prior benefits and changes in the terms and conditions of the workplaces.

Many have protested, filed objections to the Bankruptcy plan as unfair, and believe that the “grand plan” robs workers of hard earned benefits , undermines the pension system that workers and unions believe that under the Constitution cannot be unilaterally changed, is a backdoor way to destroy unions , reduce the earning of the workers on the ground there is a lack of money , yet gives to corporations and high priced lawyers and hires high price consultants. New employees who the administration wants are hired at higher salaries, while locking in the salaries of workers who have had their salaries reduced by 10% for the last 5 or more years because they will not vote to submit to unfair terms.

God is still good and laborers must work as unto the Lord while they await for justice through the legal system, effective protest, and peaceful challenges.

Let us remember those who helped build this nation through sweat and tears from slaves, domestic workers, and coal miners to those in the automobile industry, manufacturing industry, construction and other areas in which laborers work.Honor those who struggled to pass laws to protect workers’ health and safety and from unfair labor laws.

In remembering those who work for the good of their families, the community and our nation we can offer prayers for them. In this changing workplace culture we need to pray for laborers in both private and public sectors. Pray:

1. That God will reveal the dignity and honor of work with excellence for a fair return and reasonable benefits.
2. That workplaces would be a setting of safety and a place where workers will be treated with justice, respect and dignity.
3. That workers will be treated fairly and work will not be privatized at rates that are higher than the what laborers were paid for.
4. For continued employment in the changing global economy.
5. That laborers would pray in the workplace where permissible.
6. Pray for wise and fair supervisors and managers.
7. Pray for political leaders to be men and women of integrity, honor and wisdom that make sound decisions that follow God’s standards for the work place in the public sector.
8. Pray for the protection of the pensions and benefits of retirees and those in the labor force around the country, in the City of Detroit and around the nation. Lord protect the fruit of their labor
