DAY 7 – February 16th – Get Rid of Distractions So You Can Listen to God
Scriptures: Acts 9:10–16, 11:4–9; Jeremiah 33:3 and Psalm 27:8 (NLT).

Yesterday we discussed three ways to spend time with the Lord and to listen. Did you hear His voice? Get your journal, bible and have a listening ear and teachable spirit. Don’t allow the distractions of this world keep you from having an intimate time with the Lord. If you just joined the Prayer on this Day 7 the prior days are available.

…get rid of anything that will distract you from listening intently and intentionally. This type of listening comes only with deliberate, deep, honest, times of prayer where God has all of your attention. One of the main reasons we may experience difficulty in hearing God’s voice is because we are too wrapped up in listening to what everyone else has to say.*

John 10:10 warns us that Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. For those who choose to be “followers of Christ,” Satan delights to distract, discourage, and detain. He will do anything he can do to get you to tune out God’s voice. If He can get you to play instead of pray, or to work instead of embrace the Sabbath, he has just stolen the pleasure of God’s purposes from you. Thankfully, in John 10:11 Jesus assures us that He is the good Shepherd. He knows His sheep and His sheep know Him. Furthermore, His sheep know and follow His voice. Do not allow anything to distract you from hearing or recognizing Christ’s voice.*

Ask the Lord to show you times when you could separate yourself from all that is going on and truly listen for His voice. Make an appointment on your calendar or calendar app to follow through. Make it a priority!*

Do you have a quiet spot to get alone with God? Begin to think of a place you could claim for your own, a place where you can get away from distractions.*

Pray:
• Repent of not forgiving those who have sinned against you and of walking in pride, superiority or opposition to others in the body of Christ.
• Pray that you will grow in the knowledge of God’s Word for every aspect of your life.
• For God to rise up men and women of integrity, faith and love to places of spiritual authority throughout the church and the city.
• Pray for persons who feel rejected. Pray that they will know that the Lord will never forsake them and that He loves them.
• Pray for our nation and its leaders that they may rule with honor and wisdom and that wickedness in the leaders will be hindered so that all may lead quiet and peaceable lives.
